July 4th, Independence Day, A Reason to Celebrate!

This page is dedicated to those men and women who have served and those who are now serving our country.

There is hardly a family that the military service has not touched, and we all have a responsibility to support those who have sacrificed to help our country remain free. As you celebrate this day of freedom, keep in mind those who came before, who fought hard to attain this privilege and those who still defend it today. Celebrate that gift with a great 4th of July Summer Party . On this page I will give you some tips on how to make it the best party ever. I've also hand-picked some items that might come in handy for YOUR party, and you can buy them on this page. Now let's get this party started so we can settle down for the fireworks. Party On!

Basic Menu Checklist

Keep this list and note who is bringing the other items.

Shop early for all your party items, so you aren't stuck running out when the guests are arriving. Provide the meat and a few snacks, and have everyone bring a side dish, buns, chips or drinks. Be sure to keep a list of who is bringing what, so you're not eating burgers without buns. Decide in advance if you're making homemade ice cream. If so make sure you have plenty of those ingredients and good freezers to make enough for the crowd. If someone is bringing ice cream, make sure you have allotted sufficient freezer space.

I Scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

But should it be homemade or bought?

What's your take on ice cream: Homemade or Bought?

Do you prefer homemade or store bought ice cream?

Homemade for me!

MiddleSister says:

Homemade is a rare treat. You have to make it and eat it right away, so it doesn't melt. No "stabilizers" there!

kiwisoutback says:

Store bought because I don't have the time, but in a restaurant, homemade is an awesome treat. I just wouldn't want to make it myself.

PatinKC says:

Give me homemade chocolate! mmmmm! Much more healthy!!Doesn't have all those chemicals in it.

familystorykeeper says:

Storebought is easier, but it can be fun to make your own ice cream. There are recipes for making ice cream in a bag and in a can. They are simple and are fun ways to make homemade ice cream.

No thanks, I'll buy mine.

mbrownauthor says:

I love both, but guess I'll go with store bought.

spirituality says:

Unless you really know what you're doing - I prefer store bought icecream. More hygienic, and tastes better too.

Games and fun for everyone!

The elements of a good party...keep everybody busy and happy!

At your 4th of July party, set up all kinds of activities, depending on your budget. Set up games in which everyone can participate. Bocce Ball, Horseshoes, Ring Toss.

Here are more suggestions:

Moon Walk (rentals usually includes delivery, setup, and pick up)
Apple Dunking,
Fireworks (follow laws and safety guidelines in your area)
Cakewalk,
Face Painting,
Hay Ride,
Games, Prizes,
Music,
Food,
Late night movies,
Making ice cream
Card & board games, and more.

The best ever party begins with thinking about what your guests will have the most fun doing together. Get everyone in on the planning and have a great time!

4TH of July Safety

Check the laws about fireworks in your area.

Be sure to take care with any fireworks at your party. Assign adults to supervise children in the vicinity and limit the kind of participation children have with fireworks. Place a large bucket of water near the fireworks area so that any used fireworks and sparklers can immediately be placed in it in case of hot embers.

HATS OFF! THE FLAG IS PASSING BY!

~by Henry Holcomb Bennett 1863-1924

As you read this, listen for the rhythm of the drums in the cadence of the words. You can "feel" this parade!

THE FLAG GOES BY

Hats off!
Along the street there comes
A blare of bugles, a ruffle of drums,
A flash of color beneath the sky:
Hats off! The flag is passing by!
Blue and crimson and white it shines,
Over the steel-tipped, ordered lines.
Hats off! The colors before us fly;
But more than the flag is passing by.
Sea-fights and land-fights, grim and great,
Fought to make and to save the State:
Weary marches and sinking ships;
Cheers of victory on dying lips;
Days of plenty and years of peace;
March of a strong land's swift increase;
Equal justice, right, and law,
Stately honor and reverend awe;
Sign of a nation, great and strong
Toward her people from foreign wrong:
Pride and glory and honor,--all
Live in the colors to stand or fall.
Hats off! Along the street there comes
A blare of bugles, a ruffle of drums;
And loyal hearts are beating high:
Hats off! The Flag is passing by!

    Now I'm really getting in the mood for the Fourth of July! Good thing today is Memorial Day, so we're having a cookout and remembering our military.

    The 4th is such a fun holiday without all the lead up and work that one goes through at Christmas or the emotional pitfalls of Valentine's Day.

    Nice work! Luckily I don't have to do any cooking or preparing for the 4th, I just show up and enjoy.

    Hi "Sister," I enjoyed reading this lens. I just lensrolled it on my Independence Day Firecracker lens. I couldn't get the duel (below) to load, so I'll vote for fresh homemade peach ice cream as my all time favorite! Happy 4th of July. Only 363 days until the next one. Firecracker Dilbeck.
