When Waterfalls Get In Your Eyes

Ranked #21,928 in Healthy Living, #319,292 overall

Why the Ancient Greeks Would Love Modern Mexico

Did you know the word cataract is from the Greek for "waterfall'? There are more than 20 million Americans with 'waterfalls in their eyes' and if you live to age 80 you have a 1 in 2 chance of cataract formation. That's the bad news (especially given the dominance of the aging baby boomer demographic cohort in the US). Luckily there is good news about cataracts as well - cataracts can be treated successfully in at last 98 times out of 100. And in Mexico, you get the benefit of FDA-approved technology at 5-star private hospitals, at about 20% the cost of the same cataract surgery in the US. That's a clear win!

Another typical hallmark of cataracts is that 'long vision' (e.g. for driving) declines more slowly than near (reading) vision. Other sight issues impacted by the presence of cataracts include:

Three
If you experience problems with night driving such as glare that forms 'halo's around sources of light, this might be a sign of cataract formation.

Four
Myopic shift, also called 'second sight' might indicate nuclear sclerosis - an age-related change in the density of the normally clear lens nucleus.

Five
Experiencing impaired depth perception (diplopia, or monocular vision) is a sign of cataracts.
