An Introduction to Jungle Theme Bedroom Ideas
A jungle themed bedroom is an exciting interior decor theme to choose and is not that difficult to successfully carry out. On this page I have written about the points you need to consider when delving into the world of the jungle and how to transport this environment to your child's bedroom.
I've also collected together a number of products that can be found on the internet, including furniture, curtains, paintings and floor coverings that are related to the jungle theme as well as the animals one finds in such habitats. At the bottom of the page there is a guest book from where you can ask any questions you may have.

A Jungle Theme Bedroom and Education
How a themed bedroom can further your child's development and interests
Children love mystery and the chance to explore. The jungle is a far away place for most Western kids but through movies, books and cartoons, the dark and exciting world of the jungle comes closer to home. Wild animals are never far behind, lurking in the shadows or in the branches of the trees. A child's imagination can run wild with such marvellous imagery. There is however, another side to the bedroom jungle theme which will appeal to parents. The more chances there are for children to learn about nature, animals and places in the world, the better. After a hard day at school, sitting your son or daughter down and explaining from a book can seem both daunting and tiring. This is where the child's environment comes into play, literally.
When fun is mixed with learning, a child is a lot more likely to develop a long-term interest in a particular subject. A jungle theme bedroom design is a stepping stone to further exploration by the child into what type of animals, plants and locations are found in the type of decor portrayed in his or her bedroom. The chances for learning in such a situation are immense.
Collecting Together Jungle Theme Bedroom Ideas
Preparation, research and inspiration
A little preparation is key when designing a themed bedroom of any kind. Before doing anything else, it is important to do some research on jungles in general. Naturally, for a kid's bedroom, we don't have to be exact or rigid in our interpretations and can afford a liberal amount of artistic licence. However, there are basic facts we need to get right including the types of animals found in the jungle habitat, as well as the flora and fauna.Collect together a few library books and browse any encyclopaedias you have at home. Jump on the internet and surf the major search engines using various keywords to do with the jungle and the animals found there. Skim some magazines you might have, especially ones with nature as a main topic. If you're able to watch the National Geographic Channel or related documentary programs, then do so and make a few notes or sketches as you watch.
I've actually done half the work for you already. Below you will find a collection of sites I have brought together which will provide you with stimulating imagery and fascinating information on the themes of the jungle. You're sure to find some wonderful ideas for your kid's jungle themed bedroom by just browsing these links.

Adding Plants to a Jungle Theme Bedroom
Discuss with your child the implications of caring for a living plant
Plants in any interior space provide a natural quality that in most cases enhances the overall ambiance of the room. This is no different when it comes to your child's jungle theme bedroom design and decor. In fact, bringing plants into the room will further the jungle feel one is aiming for. However, such additions need to be thought through carefully and not overdone. It's important to discuss with your child the implications of having a live plant in his or her bedroom. Depending on the child's age, they might be given the responsibility themselves of watering the plant and taking general care of it. If you have an over-active child, the chances are the plant might be knocked over or destroyed. Although on the flip side, greenery also has a calming effect. You will have to decide what is best.
If you choose to add plants to your kid's jungle theme bedroom, the choices of which to buy are large. Naturally, you won't have to get a real jungle plant but there are many native species to North America and Europe that look similar in many ways and will give a jungle feel to any corner or part of the room where they are placed. You will know instinctively which plant will be suitable and even more so if you do a little research beforehand. Browse through some jungle images and make a mental note of the style of plants found in that type of habitat.
Adding plants to a room is also a good way to reduce childhood anxiety which can cause sleeplessness and other problems.
Natural Jungle Sounds for a Jungle Themed Bedroom
Sound can also play a part in creating an exciting atmosphere when friends come to visit
Natural animal sounds recorded on tape have been around for a long time already. Many people use such sounds to help them relax or as part of a guided meditation aid. What is second nature to movies and cartoons, can also be applied to the bedroom setting.Sound is often immensely underused in building up an atmosphere and character to an interior space. Below I have included some CDs of jungle animal sounds that will match well with a jungle theme bedroom. When your son or daughter has their friends round to play, you can switch on the music which will ignite their imagination and enjoyment of the jungle theme.

Jungle Theme Murals and Wall Designs
Choosing the best design options for your child's jungle walls
One of the first considerations when designing a jungle theme bedroom for your child is the wall design. There are a number of options to go for including a jungle wall mural, jungle wallpaper and wallpaper borders, stencils and also stick-on and peel-off stickies. If you want an exciting and eye catching design that fills the entire wall, then the best option is a large wall mural. These are available to order online and you can give the exact measurements you require. Jungle animals, from tigers and leopards, to elephants and giraffes will almost leap out of the wall with these delightful wall designs.
See the monkey on the vine in the picture to the right? You can get that exact wall stickie from here: Orangutan and Toucan Wall Stickie
For a more gentler feel, you can purchase some large wall photographs that can cover an entire wall in one go. These are usually views of the jungle forests or jungle waterfalls which can aid relaxation and contribute to lovely bedtime stories.
When designing a more understated jungle theme bedroom, the best route to take is to paint the walls in a simple color. This can also be achieved by covering the walls with a simply designed wallpaper. The jungle highlight can then be an exciting wallpaper border with jungle animals peeping from flora and fauna right along the edge of the room.

Jungle Theme Curtains and Window Treatments
Including regular curtains, valances and blinds
There are many choices available on the market when it comes to finding a good jungle themed curtain fabric. The choices include animal print curtains such as leopard spots or tiger stripes. There are foliage designs such as green leaves with colorful butterflies or jungle flowers. Then come the curtains with a host of jungle animals printed on them such as monkeys, jaguars, giraffes and parrots. For a kid's bedroom, the more color, the better. When it comes to deciding what type of window treatment to choose from, there are a few options. The regular curtain style is simple to achieve and is widely available in numerous quality designs. There's also the valance style curtain with a covering fabric layer which lies horizontally at the top. This can provide further artistic details as regular curtain set up wouldn't. Again, this all depends on how much detail you already have in the room and whether you want the focus to be on the window area or elsewhere.
Blinds are a popular choice as well. There are a few you can get with themes printed on them. In my opinion, the best option here would be bamboo blinds which will fit perfectly with the jungle theme of the bedroom and provide a more natural addition to the interior look.
Jungle Animal Toys for a Jungle Theme Bedroom
Toys to consider for a kid's jungle environment
Stuffed toys are the most suitable addition to a young child's bedroom. In fact, you can probably find some wonderful bargains in local discount stores as well as online. The animals found can include tigers, elephants, parrots, monkeys (my personal favorite) and snakes.Stuffed animal toys can be used as both toys and decorative accents to an interior space. Place them on the child's bed or on shelves and tables. Wherever you put them, they will provide a nice looking focus for the child and his or her friends when they come to visit. The jungle theme of the bedroom will certainly be enhanced.
You can also purchase plastic and metal toys which are child-safe. These too can act as play-things or as decorative pieces, or both!

The Colors of a Jungle Theme Bedroom
Primary, secondary and tertiary colors to consider and where to put them
Green is the first color that comes to mind when one thinks of a jungle theme bedroom and rightly so. In this case, green should be the primary color. The main secondary colors include yellow, brown and blue. Tertiary colors will be comprised of the animal designs on finds in the jungle as well as the flowers. The leopard's and tiger's markings might well a play a part as will those of a zebra or snake. One of the best influences for color themes in a jungle bedroom is that of the parrot. Their rich markings are a delightful catalyst for wonderfully beautiful color combinations you can create in certain parts of the room, whether through your own wall stencils or with fabrics.
Going back to the secondary colors. The browns will be found on the lower part of the walls as well as possibly on the floors, depending on what material you have down already and what you're willing to use. Tree trunks will also be brown and can be incorporated into a mural or as part of the furniture designs.
Various shades of greens and yellows will make up the bulk of the foliage impressions. Whether this is again on the walls, or as part of the bedding, carpeting or furniture, you can really go to work on mixing and matching various tones and shades of this main colors.
Blue is the color of the sky and of any water you portray in the interior decor. Perhaps you might paint the ceiling blue with cotton bud clouds dotted here and there. If you have wooden floorboards that you're willing to paint, you can create a blue river effect running through the center of the room. The possibilities are endless and exciting!
What Animals Can Be Included?
Isn't it wrong to put a giraffe or zebra in a jungle themed bedroom?
As I mentioned earlier, there is a certain amount of artistic licence one can take when designing a jungle bedroom theme for a child. There are many animals a child is more familiar with than others and many which he or she would prefer to be represented in their bedroom decor. For example, a giraffe is a wonderfully shaped beast to portray and is much loved by kids as an animal. However, they are not found in jungles nor are some other animals you might find on kid's jungle themed fabrics, posters, murals and bedding. It's not greatly important to keep strictly to the facts as long as the child knows later in his or her education where the animals fit in the world and their proper habitats and locations. Again, a jungle themed bedroom will be a catalyst to learning and will prepare a fantastic foundation for interest in the natural world.
To sum up, don't be afraid to include misplaced animal images such as giraffes, domestic cats, zebras, antelopes and even mythical creatures. As long as they are presented with a jungle background and are in some way tied into the theme, there's no need to worry.

We all remember our childhood chalkboards. I certainly do and mine in fact was part of the reason I later became an Interior Designer and artist. Igniting the creative passions in a child at an early age must always be encouraged and what better medium than that of a chalkboard which can be attached to their bedroom wall? This gorilla chalkboard will fit in perfectly with your child's jungle theme bedroom design.

- This is a beautiful lens, with beautiful colors, and beautiful pictures. The Jungle is absolutely amazing, and I agree with Mel, you can never be too old to enjoy this theme. The thing that grabs me is the wildness, combined with the brilliant mirage of colors and contours, very exciting indeed. I'm 26 years old, and if my wife would let me, I would use the jungle bedroom example for my bedroom without even thinking about it. I don't care how immature people would call me haha :-P
And the art paintings are absolutely exquisite. My favorite is the poison dart frogs. If anything, I would definitely put that up somewhere in my home. The colors are so trippy and it's just very stimulating for the mind.
I believe that this type of bedroom decor is ideal for children because it inspires them to think and learn, and appreciate nature. It is very stimulating to their minds and would certainly open their imagination.
Love the Lens, there is so much information here, Kudos!
