Main idea for the series

The first episode gives us an idea of the title of the series--Justified. Raylan had a "justified" shooting of a Miami criminal on the run, so he is reassigned to Lexington, Kentucky, to get him away from the publicity of the shooting. It just happens that his district includes Harlan County, a rural mining county, which is Raylen Givens hometown. It just so happens that Arlo Givens (Raylen's father) is on the opposite side of the law, as are many of his old "friends".

The pilot for Justified debuted on March 16. 2010 with 4.2 million viewers. FX network said that was more people watching FX since the TV series, The Shield.
Justified received a 2010 Peabody Award for excellence! Not bad for a cable show on an up and coming network.

Justified was nominated for four Emmy's in 2011-- Olyphant for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Goggins for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Martindale for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and Davies for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. Margo Martindale as Mags Bennett won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in September 2011.
