An Ode to Justin Hayward

This lens is dedicated to the front man of the Moody Blues - Justin Hayward.

While Justin is the lead singer and guitarist, the other band members are also fabulous and important in their own right. Graeme Edge is the drummer. Ray Thomas is the flutist (retired), Mike Pinder is the keyboardist, and John Lodge is the bassist.  All members have written famous Moody Blues songs.

Please note: I'll be adding more information about Justin and the band soon! There is SO much more to tell! *grins*

Three reasons to love Justin Hayward

I first heard about the Moody Blues when I was 7 years old (1980), when I found a 45 record of my mom's. "This Is the Story in Your Eyes" was side A and "Melancholy Man" was side B. I was hooked!

Since then, I have collected all the Moody Blues group and solo effort records on: 8-track, LP, CD, and cassette.

I also spent most of 1991 - 1996 following them around the U.S., especially in Vegas at the Caesar's Palace. I've met them a few times. Absolute gentlemen.

For some reason, the Moody Blues have been snubbed by the Rock n Rock Hall of Fame for all these years. The Moody Blues started in the very early 60's and have been going strong since - around 40 years!

So, let's get them inducted! The Rock and Hall of Fame Foundation does not have an e-mail address, so you'll have to write your request to:

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation
1290 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10104

Justin: I have been a fan since 1968 and I have the opportunity of going
to the Johannesburg concert on 01 June 2012. All I ask as a special
request is to meet you and the band after the show, have a photo, sign
my CD cover. I am now 62 and this would be a great favour for me. This
would only take 1 minute of your precious time.

In 1968 I purchased this weird looking album "In Search of a Lost Cord"
and played it on my parents mono player. Wow I was taken away. But when I
eventually purchased a sterio player and heard the music, I was really
blown away. I can play your music over and over and never tire of it.
I have all the bands albums on CD except for December which I am unable
to obtain in South Africa and some of your solo cd's

Greatest singer, songwriter of all time. The fact that the Moody Blues are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame makes the Hall a total joke.

I could NOT agree MORE! He is the greatest singer, songwriter, guitar player in the world. Is there a second best? Can't think of one.

Hello my names Michael J Darracott, in the early 1980s I was the head chef at an old peoples home in Carbis bay near St ives Cornwall in England. I sat with justin for over an hour as we ate a battenburg cake that I prepared for him. He's a real down to earth guy, easy to speak to and to be with. I had a car crash when just 20 years old, as a passenger ( I am now 54 ), it put paid to my long term career as a chef. I met Justin at the time when things were going bad for me health wise.

I wrote a book called Proper Cornish Childhood, its out there on my website, thats what i do these days, I love being a Cornish author, my next book will have Justin Hayward in it, because I will be writing about our meeting. I love the guys music.

I listened to the Moodies in the 60s and 70s and got reacquainted in 2000 - their music has always been wonderful, but it means so much more to me now.
Some things grow more beautiful and meaningful with age.

2009 and still making the best live music alive. Justin's voice is better than ever and Gordy, Paul and Norda are excellent musicians.
I saw them after a 20 year gap and was amazed at the performance they produced. That concert was too short for my liking.
As for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, what the heck do they know? they will never let this band in but they rise above all that crap anyway!!!

I have been entranced since the late 60's. Thier music is such a part of my life - I feel for anyone who has not experienced it. - also keeping the faith!
