Who is Justin Lee Collins - Rising Star
Ranked #24,546 in Entertainment, #300,238 overall | Donates to Acumen Fund
JLC has gone solo with his own chat show, good times or bad times, I wonder which it is?
Things moved on a bit and the Friday Night Project turned into the Sunday Night Project and it wasn't much longer before they went their separate ways with both of them having established their credentials as good entertainers and getting offers for solo work. I have a feeling that they might just work together again in the future as they seem to fit so well and are still good mates, guess we will have to wait and see.
Justin's latest venture is his late night chat show which is shown on UK TV on the ITV2 channel. The programs are shown on a Thursday night and are set to run until the 21st May 2009 so if you are reading this now, you just missed the last show which actually was a really good one, see below for more details.
You might notice that there is a little less of Justin these days as somehow he has managed to loose 2 1/2 stone in weight, as the photograph illustrates.
Davina McCall asked him during her interview how he managed to loose all that weight and he said it was when he used her keep fit video, not doing it just watching it, think we all knew what he meant.
So what is it about Justin Lee Collins
Here are 3 reasons I like Justin Lee Collins or JLC as he is mostly referred to:Reason 1 well we are both West Country boys, so I guess I relate to his accent and understand how difficult it can be to get on when most of the nation immediately think you are strong in the arm but thick in the head. As soon as you hear the accent it immediately conjours up an image of a bloke wearing, a cloth hat, brown smock and sucking on a bit of straw.
Pretty difficult to get taken seriously when someone has that image in their head but maybe that's worked in his favour, as comedians don't really want to be taken seriously, Duhhh!!!
Jethro, another South Western comedian, did alright on the TV for a while as well as selling loads of his comedy videos so maybe the accent does work for comedians.
Wonder if Justin likes Jethro, could be another double act in the pipeline.
Reason 2 he is actually quite a talented singer, something I didn't realise until I heard him singing a Tom Jones song on Chris Moyle's Radio 1 show. He does a mean Neil Diamond as well.
Reason 3 his knowledge of everything retro, if you have seen his show you will have seen the slot where he gets a celebrity from the past (A blast from the past) and he has about a minute of questions and answers to work out who they are. I gotta be honest I thought he must have known before he started and that its a bit of a cheat but then he didn't get this weeks (Graham from Blind Date) so now I am thinking Hmmmmm!!!! I wonder. Anyway if he gets it, a member of the studio audience gets a prize from the era, something like an etcha sketch, I used to love mine.
Anyway those are my reasons, so like them or lump them, that's all I have.
Find out more about his show and his solo effort on The UK Comedy Guide its all about light entertainment on British television.

Good to see Justin's old comedy partner Alan Carr appearing on the show, see they are still mates, oh you of little faith.
So the rubic cube went into the audience and the prize for guessing the blast from the past this week (24th April) was a replica bridge of the Star Ship Enterprise. Unfortunately Justin failed again to identify the blast from the past who was in fact the person behind 'Finger Mouse', Ian Laughlin, hardly surprising really. I had never heard of Finger Mouse never mind the anonymous person behind what is effectively a finger puppet. There must be someone out there who was interested, but it went right past me.
So who was that voice bloke who reckoned he has met Justin before, well Justin clearly couldn't remember him so it's out to vote, true or false. I reckon false personally because it takes 2 to tango and Justin definitely wasn't dancing.
Boyzone were pretty good guests for Justin, they were down to earth and happy to chill out and have a laugh. Actually all the guests on this show (7th May) seemed to be in that category, we had Alesha Dixon telling us how she got drunk celebrating getting to the strictly come dancing final and chucking up in her final rehearsals the next day and Martin Freeman of 'The Office' fame doing a not too shabby impersonation of Alan Carr.
So actually a pretty good week all in all, well worth going to ITV player for a quick look if you missed it and you will get to see Alesha doing her wrap song in ?? seconds and see a little bit of her video for her latest release, 'Lets Get Excited'.
Well here we are 21st May 2009 already and I have just watched the last in the series of Justin Lee Collins' chat shows. Has to be said it was pretty good he was introduced by the Cheeky Girls and Fern Britton used the 'F' word on television, that's got to be a first for Fern, who has been driven to dementia by the British Paparazzi hence the emotive and colorful outburst.
But for me the star of the show was the self proclaimed lunatic Bear Grylls and the footage of him squeezing and drinking the water from elephant dung as a last resort survival trick to re-hydrate yourself if you ever get isolated in the African bush. Personally I think I would just have told people you could do it, not actually demonstrated on TV.
He also described how he got caught short hanging off a rope half way up something, probably a mountain, having eaten a dodgy snake that gave him serious diarrhea. He asked the camera man to stop filming while he pulled down his pants and let go, I wouldn't have liked to be below him. Needless to say the cameraman thought it was TV gold and ignored Bear completely, so somewhere it is in the can so to speak.
In fact I was so amused by this guy I decided to find a Wikipedia of him and include it on this page so you can read a little more about him.
Actually Mark Ronson and Daniel Merryweather were quite entertaining as well and we got to hear about their latest musical developments.
The blast from the past turned out to be the voice of the puppet Soo, the female friend of Sooty of Sooty and Sweep fame. Justin actually guessed it this time with 1 second to go, which meant that a rather attractive PHD student, who's name escapes me, got to win a set of 20 different Slinkys, just what a highly intellectual and attractive PHD student needs I would imagine, she seemed quite pleased though.
Another audience participant asked Fern Britton what she could do about her Banana phobia, Fern helpfully suggested that she avoid them. Justin on the other hand asked the audience if anyone actually had a banana, guess what, some weirdo actually takes bananas to chat shows, so you can guess what happened next. Yes she faced her fear and no nothing smutty it is a chat show not a porn show, bit disappointing really, she didn't look that bothered to me.
Anyway that is it, you can watch repeats on ITV2 Catch Up for a while, but after that this is all you will have to remind you of what actually turned out to be pretty acceptable entertainment. So well done Justin, I would watch another series.

Justin's best mate Alan Carr
Alan seems a bit more organised than Justin, he has an official Alan Carr Website which you can find right here. But apparently Justin has been recognised by Loaded magazine as officially being Britains funniest man. Didn't go down well everywhere, check this out on TV Scoop
I suppose everyone's entitled to their opinion, there are some bitter and twisted people around, that guy probably doesn't like the accent, can't understand why. Hang on a sec, I think I've got a bit of straw stuck between my teeth.

- I watched this TV show last night, it was quite amusing, Chris Moyles was on and yes he definitelty needs to stop talking about climbing up that mountain because it's getting boring now although he was still pretty funny.
