Stress and Diabetes

Stress is something that everyone is affected by in some form or another. There are two types of stress. One of them is physical stress and the other is emotional stress. Either type is a factor that greatly affects a person with diabetes.

Physical stress occurs from several different factors. For instance, when someone is suffering from infections in their body they are having physical stress. If you are undergoing surgery then your body is going through physical stress. Even being exposed to extreme heat or cold conditions can also contribute to this condition.

Emotional stress happens when someone becomes angry or upset for some reason. It can be caused from being frightened or startled. Being worried about a loved one can be very stressful emotionally. Even something as simple as preparing for a business meeting that is important in the advancement of your job can cause emotional stress.

Stress causes you're your blood glucose levels to raise when you are a diabetic. This is the very thing that you are trying to avoid. Therefore being under a lot of stress makes it even harder for someone to keep his or her blood glucose at a normal level. This increases their risks of developing complications. If you are diabetic, you should try and limit the amount of stress that you encounter as much as possible.
