Kabetogama Lake is called, "God's County"!

Kabetogama Lake is the gateway to God's Country and is the only national park in the State of Minnesota in the United States of America. Voyageurs National Park is a water park made up of 3 major lakes and several small lakes. The major land mass is the Kabetogama Peninsula and there are hundreds of islands and wilderness to explore while camping, boating, canoeing and fishing.

There are also beautiful resorts with cabins by the lake and hotels and lodges, and RV sites and campsites at Woodenfrog State Campground (my favorite place at Kab) and at Ash River Trail, and through-out the wilderness in the park with 900 islands and interconnected lakes. Kabetogama Lake is a community in St Louis County, Minnesota. It is located southeast of International Falls on County Road 122. US Highway 53 is nearby. Kabetogama is located within the Kabetogama Township of the USA. It is the only place in the United Sates where you can look south into Canada. The closest village is Ray about 10 miles, and the closest town is International Falls about 32 miles with the nearest airport. The Historic Kettle Falls Hotel and Dam and the Ellsworth Rock Garden are magnificent sites to see and enjoy. There are lovely gift shops, nice places to eat, tours, a mini-mall, grocery store, church services, planned events, entertainment for everyone, and blueberry picking and pancake feeds too; and there is also BINGO at the Kabetogama Hall.

A Kabetogama Lake Sunset Picture 2009

Voyageurs National Park became a national park in 1971. It covers approximately 218,000 acres, which is 134,000 land and 84,000 water. There are 655 miles of shoreline and more than 500 islands and four major lakes. The 200-plus developed campsites are accessible only by water travel.

The Gateway to God's Country is Kabetogama

I am a native of Kabetogama Lake. Can't think of a better place to grow up!

I have been wanting to make a lensography to showcase my web-pages or Squidoo lenses about Lake Kabetogama and Voyageurs National Park. Our Giant Squid Summer School assignment for week #3 is to make a lens in the Local Category and to write a review of a place or thing we like. There isn't a place I like more than where I grew up, Kabetogama Lake a wilderness in Voyageurs National Park.

Bald Eagles, White Tail Deer, Moose, Timber Wolves, Fox, Wild Cats, Black Bear, Wolverines, Mink, Beaver, Otters, Turtle and Snappers, Chipmunks and Squirrels, Flying Squirrels, and you name it birds, fresh water fish, varmints and insects live here too. They all get along pretty well with people and their territories. Kabetogama Lake is famous for its Kabetogama Walleye.

Welcome! Review of Kabetogama and Voyageurs National Park

God's Country is the Land That I love

Kabetogama Lake is the Land of the Lady Slipper!

There is a 3 day Lady Slipper Festival held annually at Kabetogama. My sister in-law was jogging along a country road many years ago and sighted a large growth of flora that held Lady Slippers. Thus, the festivals began!Lady's Slipper - MN Pictures, Images and PhotosThe Lady Slipper is the Minnesota State Flower.

Lake Kabetogama will be where the 2010 Governor's Fishing Opener will be held. People will need to provide places for over 100 persons in the governor's party plus news and camera crews to stay, plus food, boats, house boats and guides. Fishing is a multi-billion dollar industry in Minnesota which is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes. There are more like 20,000 lakes though.

You can always bring your cell phone camping, if you have one. The camp sites through out Voyageurs National Park are accessed by water with boats, kayaks, and canoes. There are picnic tables, fire rings, and out-houses provided.

Bald Eagles in Voyageurs National Park

The American Bald Eagle is my favorite bird and I love to watch them in the wild!

Voyageurs National Park biologists counted 69 bald eagle nests in the park's boundaries on April 16 of 2009 by an aerial survey. Its good to have the American Bald Eagle populations all over North America on the rise. They are The United States National Symbol For Freedom and The USA National Bird.

Kabetogama Lake a Wilderness - God's Country

This lens has been #1 in Local and #12 Over All

Lake Kabetogama is a very popular vacation paradise that tourists and summer residents return to year after year since they were little and have great grandchildren of their own now. The air is fresh and clean and there are no street lights so the stars shine bright as well as the moon we all love to look at!

This is my main page about Kabetogama Lake and Voyageurs National Park. I dedicated this lens to my loving family!

Ellsworth Rock Garden at Kabetogama Lake

About 100 Visitors Per Day Go To See Ellsworth Rock Garden on Kabetogama Lake.

This is a historical site that tourists and residents love to visit, it is a zen garden in the wilderness of Voyageurs National Park. The park rangers do the upkeep and visitors are responsible about keeping it clean by hauling out any garbage with them in the boat. There are no roads to this wonderful place where the wild animals will eat out of your hand!

As I was growing up we would stop by to visit the Ellsworths and their rock garden when the family was camping on an island or fishing near by. There are several pictures here to see!

Kabetogama Lake Maps - VNP

Orbitz Travel and Kabetogama Lake Maps in the USA (Canadian Border)

When exploring a vast wilderness that you are not well familiar with it is good to have a good map and a compass so that you don't get lost. Having some knowledge of survival is also wise! There are park rangers and resort owners and residents that watch out for everyone in the area and a volunteer rescue team and fire department.

Maps are great to look at and can prove valuable for finding out where you want to go!

Voyageurs National Park Trail Map

See all of the nature trails and snowbile trails in VNP. There are many miles of them!

Truly a wilderness adventure and a great place to take a vacation year after year, as many people do. People travel by water in the park by canoe and camp as they explore the miles of an untamed lakes area in the wilderness. Kabetogama is a spectacular place to grow up at and I cherish the memories from my childhood. The skills and values that were instilled within me are prized!

You will find a very good Trail Map here of VNP!

Have You Been To Lake Kabetogama or Voyageurs National Park?

Kabetogama is my favorite slice of heaven on earth in God's Country!~

Looking over Kabetogama Lake Pictures, Images and Photos
I love to sit on the shores of Kabetogama and listen to the Loons calling across the water, watch Bald Eagles catch a fish and fly away, watch the sun come up and go down, and breathe the fresh country air. The air is so fresh at Kabetogama and throughout the park, that if you're not used to it you'll get knocked-out by it when you go to rest your head on a pillow!

The snow does help for tracking a deer. Hope that hunting is good for everyone. There sure are plenty of deer again this year. ~ I heard there's some cooler weather on the way, but no snow forecast, just rain.

Well, deer season opened in Minnesota last weekend with no snow cover at all at Kabetogama Lake--hunters like a bit of snow to help with tracking. Also, weather in the 50's forced hunters to lighten up their hunting wear some.

We have has sunshine today, nice to see that again. Been so cloudy and rainy for weeks it seems. Walks in the Fall are brisk and maybe the walking is a little brisker too, warms a person up to be moving. I've gone out with the snow-blower in 20 below temperatures and thought I's freeze my fingers off starting out, but they warmed up and I found myself unzipping my coat. Of course I had bib-snow-pants on under and 3 or 4 layers of cloths. Just gotta dress for it. ~ It really does make it more of an adventure walking or whatever.

We're pretty tough in the northland and enjoy all the seasons in stride. Al and I were out walking yesterday with headbands to protect our ears and by the time we got home, we didn't even notice that we were cold at all though it was 36. Yesterday we got a little rain while the hill in Duluth got about an inch of snow at 32 degrees. We've had snow a couple times that has melted.[in reply to Tipi]

When I talked to Mom earlier today, she said that she woke to snow and was so surprised. It had all melted by mid-afternoon. We have to be ready for that early and hadr winter that Farmer's Almanac predicts. Love you!

The northland got an early blankt of snow yesterday about 1 1/4 inches at Kabetogama and also here at home 150 miles south. That first cover is always pretty but it was gone by afternoon--more expected tomorrow.[in reply to Tipi]
