I'm a ka huna bodywork and massage therapist, trained in South Africa by Anthea Hardwick. This lens looks at what it takes to be an alternative health practitioner in this beautifully flowing massage technique.

If you're in South Africa, and fancy a rich, flowing, healing massage, send me an email on schmucknews@gmail.com or call me on +27 82 659 3165.

"I have always been deeply moved by nature, people and movement. The three can bring about powerful transformation and joy!"
Kahuna (Lomi Lomi) -- Ancient Hawaiian Temple Style Bodywork
An article on lovingtouch.co.za:

Ka Huna Massage of Hawaii. Sometimes called the dance of breath and life from the heart, it is magical to give, beautiful to watch and deeply healing to receive.
Lomi Lomi Ka Huna Massage
A fascinating article by Stephen Langley.

This healing system is derived from the ancient Polynesian methods of restoring balance to the body, mind and soul (Huna). Through this treatment of the physical body, powerful healing is able to take place more quickly and completely on the physical, psychological and spiritual levels.

The body work has a beautiful way of: bringing the joy of life to your body; bringing a feeling of peace to your mind; and bringing a sense of wonder to your soul. It also releases memories and allows change physically, mentally and spiritually, bringing them into balance and harmony.

Kitting Out Your Therapy Room

Body Craft Products - Manufacturers of Portable Massage Couches
DISCLAIMER: I don't earn commission of any kind from BodyCraft. I bought my massage couch from them, and I'm very satisfied with the quality and service.

They've got an excellent portable couch that folds up. It's made with pvc in the colour of your choice, and it uses an aluminium/metal frame. Great price (I paid just more than one thousand rand a year ago.)
Inexpensive Massage Oil: Grapeseed Oil
One of the things you'll need for your massage therapy room is a decent oil. Most of the places I've been to sell various kinds of oil for variously bloated prices.

Until I discovered Grapeseed Oil which can be found lurking with olive oil in supermarkets.

The brand I've been using is Borges, found in South Africa at Pick 'n Pay. It comes in one-litre bottles, and costs around R40.

The great thing about it is that it makes for a very nice, non-allergic oil that is easily absorbed into the skin, but lasts for the full massage.

I'm very happy with it.
