Abstract Kaleidoscope Art Gifts Fun Geometric Artwork

While I usually do flowers and plants, I occasionally decide to do something completely different. This time I decided to work with geometric forms and patterns for a kaleidoscope look. I started with normal images so sometimes little bits of reality and natural colors sneak in.
I hope you enjoy my images and that you'll ask questions and make comments in the guest book or on my art website.

You can find all my kaleidoscope geometric art gifts at Zazzle in its own special gallery.

You can find all my artwork available as fine art prints at my
Imagekind gallery. In fact, the framed images you see on this page are previews of custom framing option's I've set.

Why abstract geometric kaleidoscope like art?

Well, actually it wasn't a plan. I do however have a plan to regularly try new types of art, new techniques, new software or filters, new styles, etc. I don't want my art to become stale, and I hope that what I learn from the effort will later go back and help me do even better with my main collection of art which is floral and plant photography.

How long does it take to prepare a photo or image?

It takes me on average about one hour of editing to prepare a photo. This is after taking the photo. It depends more on the level of detail than the number of effects. Digital art preparation is a little different and it really depends on how detailed the original image is and how well it takes my usual effects. Some digital images require many slight adjustments while others seem to work perfectly.

How do I prepare my photos for Zazzle and other Print on Demand?

First after finishing a photo shoot (or drawing an image), I copy the images to a new directory on my hard drive and then I do a first pass through them. I delete the ones that are blurry, have bad lighting and other strong defects. Then I look at the similar images and keep the best. Out of the remainder I fix the contrast, color balance and make my final selection.

Even then I'm not ready to upload. I erase any artifacts or crop out what doesn't belong, check saturation, scan the image for tiny artifacts, and then apply effects as desired. If and when I'm happy with the image I upload it to Zazzle, Imagekind, and Redbubble for viewing and possible sale.

What tools do I use to take and prepare my photos and digital art for Zazzle and other printing services?

I take my photos with a 10.1 Megapixel Casio Exilim. It is a pretty good camera, but it is not pro. I've had it since spring 2008. It does well with daylight, shade and indoors during the day. It isn't good at night and it can't take any true macro photos only close up shots. If I try to get too close everything goes blurry (yes, in macro mode) I use Adobe Photoshop to edit my Photos. I use many different Photoshop filters to add different effects to enhance images. I'll often apply one filter after another for combined effects.

I like your designs. The B&W reminds me of Escher.
