Kal Penn starred as "Dr. Lawrence Kutchner"

Kal Penn is an American Actor who previously starred as "Dr. Lawrence Kutner" on the TV Series "House" with Hugh Laurie. His character, Dr. Lawrence Kutner, was written out of the TV Series "House" in 2009.

He is also well known for starring in two "Harold & Kumar" movies with John Cho; "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" and "Harold & Kumar Go to White Caste."

Kal has always been interested in politics and left "House" to work at the White House under President Obama. He worked as an Associate Director as a Public Liaison. He resigned from this position in June 2010 to resume his acting career and film a new movie.

Kal filmed the 3rd "Harold & Kumar" Film called "A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas 3D (2011)." This new "Harold & Kumar" movie is scheduled for release in December 2011 in time for the holiday season.

Kal Penn has now returned to politics and resumed his position as an Associate Director for the Office of Public Engagement at the White House.

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay is the 2008 comedy film sequel to the 2004 film, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. John Cho and Kal Penn reprise their roles as the eponymous stoner duo, along with Paula Garcés as Harold's love interest, Maria.[2] Neil Patrick Harris also returns as a satirical version of himself.

New additions to the cast are comedian Jon Reep and former Daily Show correspondents Rob Corddry and Ed Helms.[2] Other cast members include David Krumholtz, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jack Conley, Roger Bart, Danneel Harris, Eric Winter, Adam Herschman, and Richard Christy.[3]

The film was released on April 25, 2008 by Warner Bros.; this film was the first New Line Cinema title to be distributed by Warner Bros. since New Line Cinema became a division of Warner Bros.[4] The film was released on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc on July 29, 2008.

The plot revolves around the two pot-smoking title characters, who decide to go to the fast food restaurant White Castle after smoking marijuana, only to find themselves embarked on a series of comical misadventures.

The film was written by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, and directed by Danny Leiner. Starring John Cho (Harold) and Kal Penn (Kumar), it also features appearances by Fred Willard, Paula Garcés, Anthony Anderson, Dan Bochart, Ethan Embry, Jamie Kennedy, Bobby Lee, Christopher Meloni, Ryan Reynolds, Shaun Majumder, David Krumholtz, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Malin Akerman and Neil Patrick Harris (in a deranged parody of himself).

The film was positively received by critics, with a 73% "Fresh" rating at Rotten Tomatoes.[1][2]

The $9 million-budget film grossed a modest $18 million in 2,163 theaters in the United States,[3] but then went on to earn more than $60 million in DVD rentals and sales.[4]
