The Kangaroo are a very intelligent species and hop around out on the prairies and fields while the Koalas, which are very unintelligent, live up in the trees and eat leaves. Interesting facts about Koalas
The Europeans are known to have called them the koala bears, they thought that koalas looked like bears and in fact that they were bears so they called them 'koala bears'.
1. Koalas carry their young in a pouch which means that they are MARSUPIALS
2. Koalas have two thumbs on their front paws
3. Koalas are mostly NOCTURNAL animals. They sleep during the day, and move around and feed at night.
4. Koalas' fur is different in different parts of Australia.
5. The male koala has a dark scent gland in the center of his chest. He rubs this on the tree in order to mark his territory.
6. Koalas also communicate with each other by making a noise like a snore and then a belch, known as a "bellow".
7. Koalas on mainland Australia produce on average, one young every two years.
8. Koala babies are known as 'joeys'.
9. When koalas are born, they are only 2 centimeters long, which is about as big as a jellybean!
10. At birth, koala joeys have no fur and their eyes and ears are still closed.

Name: Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus)
Primary Classification: Marsupialia (Marsupials)
Location: Eastern Australia.
Habitat: Eucalyptus forest.
Diet: Eucalyptus leaves, almost exclusively.
Size: Up to 2.5 ft in length and 33 lbs in weight.
Description: Gray or light brown in color. White chest. Round head. Fluffy ears. Small, yellow or orange eyes. Large nose. Soft, thick, wool-like fur. Large paws with strong claws; two opposable toes on the forepaws.
Conservation Status: Lower Risk (Near Threatened)
Major Threat: Habitat loss due to deforestation.

- You know I think I know everything about a subject and a lens like this shows me how arrogant and wrong I was. Two thumbs? Really ... wow I learned a lot here about Kangaroos and koalas. Though I have to say I like the Koala better ... though they staring at you in the dark is a bit unnerving.
