Plaza Lights by Brian Hillegas
Beginning in 1930, the lighting ceremony is the official kick off of the holiday season. The famous ceremony, which began as 16 lights hung over a doorway, now includes over 80 miles of lights with 280,000 multi-colored bulbs outlining and illuminating the buildings and towers of the Country Club Plaza.

Bike Racing
Riders started at Crown Center, went through Penn Valley Park, took Broadway up toward the convention centers then headed through Quality Hill. They crossed over toward Grand Avenue and went through the River Market before heading back toward downtown, passing the Sprint Center and ending back at Crown Center. David Zabriskie finished first, 30 seconds ahead of Gustav Larsson.
The race consisted of seven laps through a 10.2 mile circuit course.
Neighborhood viewing parties were scattered throughout the race at Berkley Riverfront Park, 17th and Summit, and the Power and Light District. (~~Casey Osburn)

- We lived in KC for 9 years and it's a great place to live. We've moved back to St.Louis but our son and family still live in KC so we get to visit often. I love the fountains, love Country Club Plaza...and really love the Christmas lights and how the make a big deal of it on Thanksgiving night. Crown Center is great too! Really good places to eat in KC.
