Kapalua Resort offers guest accommodations at The Kapalua Villas, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, The Residences at Kapalua Bay and Kapalua Luxury Homes. Combined, they create a mix of vacation homes and condominiums, fractional ownership units, timeshare units and full-service guestrooms.

The Kapalua Villas offer spacious one-, two- and three-bedroom condominium villas nestled in scenic enclaves throughout the Kapalua Resort, offering fairway, ocean and oceanfront views. Guests of The Kapalua Villas enjoy the resort's wide range of amenities including golf, tennis, dining and spa privileges in addition to a full service concierge and rental car desk on-site to assist guests with any travel needs or special requests. Guests also receive complimentary local, long-distance and select international phone service as well as daily maid service.

Kapalua Gold Villas
The Kapalua Villas' newest collection is The Kapalua Gold Villas. Dramatically transformed under the direction of Hawai`i's top interior designers, Gold Villas offer distinguished accommodations with access to VIP amenities and services. Those include robes and slippers, fine linens and daily newspaper delivery, daily maid and turndown service, VIP check-in service, dedicated concierge services and special welcome gifts.

The three villa communities for guests at the resort include The Bay, Golf and Ridge Villas. Kapalua Gold Villas are located in each of these communities.

- The Bay Villas are a shoreline cluster of 141 one- and two-bedroom oceanfront condominiums fronting Oneloa Bay. Community recreational facilities include three swimming pools with barbecue areas and two private tennis courts.

- The Golf Villas, located on approximately 15.8 acres, overlook the verdant fairways of The Bay Course with views of the neighboring islands of Lana`i and Moloka`i. There are 186 one- and two-bedroom air-conditioned villas featuring four swimming pool pavilions each with gas barbecues.

- The Ridge Villas, situated on approximately 21.5 acres of cliffs overlooking Oneloa Bay, offer panoramic ocean views. Each low-rise building houses five or six spacious residences designed for low density and optimum privacy. A total of 161 one- and two-bedroom units include two recreational pavilions with swimming pools and barbecues.

Kapalua Resort's modern history began in 1836 when Dr. Dwight Baldwin settled on Maui. After 17 years of serving the land and people, he was rewarded a royal grant of 2,675 acres, the lands of the Mahinahina and Kahana ahupua'a, for farming and grazing. Through additional grants, purchases and mergers, the land later known as Honolua Ranch grew to 24,000 acres by 1902.

Between 1850 and 1902, Dwight's son, Henry Perrine Baldwin, tapped the area's rich agricultural potential with the help of a Scotsman named David Thomas Fleming, an avid horticulturist. They planted acres of coffee, taro, aloe and mango. It was Fleming who planted the majestic Cook and Norfolk pine trees along Kapalua Resort's roads.

In 1912, Fleming and H.P. Baldwin's son, Harry, planted the first 20 acres of pineapple fields. Over the next three decades, the Honolua Ranch became Honolua Plantation.

In 1932, Maui Pineapple Company, Ltd. was founded and headed by J. Walter Cameron, husband to H.P. Baldwin's granddaughter, Frances. Their son, ML&P's first president, Colin C. Cameron, envisioned Kapalua Resort and created the enduring legacy of the Pu'u Kukui Watershed Preserve.

In 1975, ML&P incorporated the Kapalua Land Company, Ltd. (KLC) as its subsidiary dedicated to resort development and the Maui Pineapple Company, Ltd. (MPC) as its subsidiary devoted to pineapple and other agricultural operations.

KLC helped ML&P diversify its activities with its successful operation of the Kapalua Resort. In the late 1970s, KLC opened The Kapalua Bay Hotel for business and began the development and sale of condominiums and luxury single-family properties. The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua opened its doors in 1992, after being moved from its original location following the discovery of Hawaiian remains.

In recent years, ML&P and KLC have undertaken several major initiatives to improve and revitalize the Kapalua Resort. Today, more than a century after H.P. Baldwin cast his eyes on Honolua, Kapalua Resort and Maui Land & Pineapple Company continue to change and grow. Future resort projects include plans for additional amenities, renovation of certain facilities and a trail system that will run along the ocean, through the mountains and encompass the entire resort.

Ala Hele Kapalua or "Kapalua Heritage Trail"
This self-guided walking tour offers visitors to Kapalua Resort a brief glimpse into Hawai`i's history and the resort's rich cultural heritage. Eleven monuments marking historical points of interest loop through the resort starting with the Honolua Store, one of the oldest buildings in the area, and The Kapalua Villas Reception Center, which was once known as the Honolua Plantation Office. Other markers include the Hawaiian Camp, Kumulani Chapel, Honokahua, Oneloa Bay, Kapalua Bay, D.T. Fleming Aloe Patch, Mango Grove, Cook Pine Trees, Maka`oi`oi, Butterfly Hill and the Japanese Camp.

100 Miles of Hiking and Biking Trails
The Kapalua Trail System is an important component of the resort's expansion into a lifestyle community. The three areas of focus are: Mauka Trails, Resort Pathways, and the Kapalua Coastal Trail, which will connect Kapalua Bay to Honolua Bay. When combined, they will include approximately 100 miles of public hiking, biking and equestrian trails throughout the resort.

Kapalua Adventures
Scheduled to open in January 2008, Kapalua Adventures will feature an outfitting center, where visitors can pick up essentials for daily activities, including maps and equipment, and an adventure concierge. Canopy tours above the tree tops and pineapple fields on the mountainside will take place on dual ziplines to which guests will be carried on a "zipper lifter." A climbing wall, guided hikes and bike rides are also planned.

Water Activities
Beach and water activities within the resort include terraced swimming pools at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua and The Residences at Kapalua Bay; ten fresh-water swimming pools throughout The Kapalua Villas properties, and three white sand beaches: Oneloa Bay and two of "America's Best Beaches," D.T. Fleming Beach and Kapalua Bay. Rental equipment and instructional programs are available for snorkeling, scuba, kayaking and diving.

Hawaiian Cultural Programs
Kapalua Resort embraces the Hawaiian culture and shares its history and traditions through weekly programs offered at the Honolua Village Center and The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. In the Honolua Village Center's Kukui Room, guests may learn the history surrounding Kapalua Resort and its Hawaiian and plantation era heritage, as well as lei making, weaving and hula lessons.

Maui Gold® Pineapple Tour

Honolua Store has long been a gathering place for Maui residents and island visitors and locals alike. Built in 1929, it originally served as the Company Store for the bustling plantation camp which encompassed the area now known as Kapalua Resort. Today, visitors can sample local food at the store's casual dining area on the lanai, purchase field-ripened pineapples and farm fresh produce, sundry items, merchandise with Kapalua Resort's butterfly logo and other island gifts. Currently undergoing renovation and expansion, the Honolua Store will eventually feature dinner service, a new coffee bar and an expanded cold deli. It will also offer a larger wine selection, variety of gourmet foods and organic foods.

Honolua Village Center, at the heart of the resort, features the Kukui Room where visitors can view interactive displays about the history, culture and geography of the resort, and take complimentary lessons in Hawaiian lore, cultural arts and botany. The Kapalua Realty showroom is located on the upper level and La Perle fine jewelry can be found on the lower level near the Kukui Room.

Pineapple Grill - Located at The Bay Course Clubhouse, its inventive menu offers a next generation approach to the evolving art of Pacific island cuisine; open daily for lunch and dinner.

The Plantation House - Located at The Plantation Course Clubhouse, it features classic Hawaiian-Mediterranean cuisine and panoramic views; open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar -Located in the Honolua Village Center, it serves sushi, sashimi and Japanese-based Pacific Rim cuisine for dinner.
