Kara DioGuardi is the new judge on American Idol. You may not have heard her name before this, but she has made a name for herself in the music industry as a singer and award winning song writer.

On American Idol she brings a little more balance to the judges. Kara DioGuardi's style helps by giving constructive criticism and she is one of the nicest judges to the contestants. In the try outs she defended many of the American Idol contestants from the ridicule and humiliation from Simon Cowell.

  • 2003 - BMICable Award for cowriting and performing, Somethin' To Say, the theme to the Lifetime Televsion series "For The People".

  • 2007 - BMI's Pop "Songwriter of the Year" for 2006.

  • 2007 - Nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Best Song category on the Belinda singe, Bella Tracion.

  • 2007 - TAXI A&R award for Humanitarian of the Year at their Road Rally Convention.

Paula Abdul and Kara DioGuardi's Past Connection

These American Stars Have A Long Friendship

Early in Kara's career, she was introduced to the pop star Paula Abdul. The two hit it off and were even roommates for a short while. As roommates they co-wrote the Kylie Minogue hit "Spinning Around" as a team. Paula said that Kara was the best roommate that she ever had except that she walks in her sleep.

So far on American Idol, it seems that Paula appreciates having Kara on the show. It appears that Paula likes having another kind heart when Simon is harsh on the contestants. Paula and Kara also back each other up whenever the other needs it.
