Karen Brown's Guides to the USA and Europe
There are 17 Karen Brown Guides to enjoy.
Karen Brown's Guides offer a real insight into the best places to stay in the some of the most wonderful parts of the world. The are 4 Karen Brown Guides to the USA - New England, Mid-Atlantic, California and Pacific Northwest, plus one for Mexico. These rae excellent travel guides.
For Europe, there are Travel Guides to England Wales and Scotland ( that's the one we are in!), Germany, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland.
For France there are two guides, one for B & Bs and one for hotels.
For Italy, there are 3 travel guides, one for B & Bs, one for hotels, and one that concentrates on Tuscany and Umbria.
I have never been disappointed with any hotel or B & B I've stayed in recommended by Karen Brown. In Rome, for instance, its easy to pick somewhere that looks great, but is miles out of the centre. We used Karen's Brown's Guide, and found the Hotel Due Torri. Small, intimate, and very central, it was perfect for us, and didn't break the budget. The Guide is very honest- Karen said the rooms were small, and they are- it's an old Roman Building, originally a bishop's house, and like lots of old European buildings, the rooms are small, especially compared to modern U.S.hotel rooms. But what they lack in size, they make up for in charm.

One of my favorite hotels in Austria , recommended by Karen Brown's Guides
The Boglerhof in Alpbach

Alpbach is a picture postcard mountain village in Austria, not far from Salzburg. In summer its a riot of flowers. In winter its a friendly ski resort.
This hotel is the oldest in the village, and is warmly recommended by Karen Brown. It is family run and they offer a great welcome to their guests.

Is a Karen Brown's Guide right for you?
Reasons why you Karen Brown's Guides may not suit you.
If I was traveling with children, I would not use these guides, as they are not intended for the family market.
As an owner of a Karen Brown recommended B & B, I find that the majority of visitors using these guides are older couples, looking for something a bit different .
Some people may prefer the well known hotel groups, because of their predictable, modern accommodation and facilties.

- Karen is one of the great travelers who seems to look for experiences that touch the soul, very different from other tour guide books that only give lists of things to do.
