As a matter af fact, when I started editing this lens I knew very little about Karen Overton, but this lens has been the perfect tool to collect all the information. And now, especially after I added the biography, a clear picture is about to be revealed.

 

Still nothing new on Karen Overton

As you might have noticed, I've updated this lens with the quesstion "What happened to Karen" and I still haven't got a cloe. I had no response and my research haven't led to any answers. I also added the photos from a performance in 2008 that seems to be quite different from what we previously have heard from Karen Overton. But now we're in 2010 and I still wonder where she went and what she's doing.
I still hope to find some answers and if you know anything, please contact me, so this lens can be updated.

What happened to Karen?

For some time ago, Karen Overton represented some new material on her MySpace and now that I wanted to update this lens I tried to search for more news on the girl with the fantastic voice.
In my research I found out that the old Karen Overton MySpace profile is gone. It seems to have been deleted. I found a new profile called Karen Overton on MySpace Music, but there are no tracks, no pictures and only 10 friends. Last time I looked at the old MySpace profile, she had hundreds of friends and hundreds of comments.

I really don't know if this profile is THE REAL Karen and I don't know what happened to the other profile. I can't find any news about Karen. No new releases: NOTHING

The question is: What happened to Karen Overton??

Karen Overton Biography - Part I

Brighton is not only known as nice city at the sea, but also a place, where several big names of the electronic dance scene are coming from, like Fatboy Slim, Phats & Small or Freemasons. And Karen Overton is from Brighton, too. Born in 1983, she spent her whole childhood there. At the age of 14 she achieved a scholarship to attend and study at K-BIS School for Performing Arts and she began writing music. Three years later Karen Overton moved to London, after being scouted by a modelling agency, to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Within five years she has modelled for the likes of Firetrap, Gap and Sandra Rhodes. But even whilst modelling, her song writing continued and she trained vocally with Kevin Leo, who also worked with several top artists, like Lemar, Sugababes, Kelly Le Roc, Big Brovas, Another Level or Busted.

In 2004 she recorded a demo and met Dino Lenny at a fashion launch in Chelsea soon after. Dino Lenny was a big name in House biz at that time already. He released several huge club and chart hits on labels like Positiva and Yoshitoshi, the label of Deep Dish. With tracks as like as Dino Lenny vs. Housemartins: "Change The World" he climbed into charts in several territories and as a DJ he plays all around the world since a lot of years. Karen and Dino shared their ideas and collaboration began.

Only some months later both finished the track "Your Loving Arms", a remake of the Billie Ray Martin song. It got a first release on the Italian label "Ego Music" and soon Heller & Enkie received this track. They are not only well-known DJs and producers, but also the owners of the respected label Supra Recordings. Both fell in love with this tune directly, so they licensed it for their label and started to promote it. They knew about the potential of this track, but even they did not expect this enormous feedback. "Your Loving Arms" became one of the highest demanded tracks at the Winter Music Conference 2006 in Miami, both House DJs and Trance DJs started to play it all the time. DJs like Armin van Buuren, Mousse T., Tiesto, Deep Dish, Ferry Corsten, Tom Novy or Paul van Dyk added it to their playlists and the received feedbacks were awesome.

Now everybody is expecting a word wide hit: labels all around the world licensed the single for a national release, there's no club left, where this huge anthem is not played every night. And Karen Overton is eager to complete the transition from model to performer as her prolific song writing continues.

How did I get to know Karen Overton?

...not that I know her :)

One day I was browsing at xanga.com and suddenly, browsing the sites, the music start playing!
I was stunned by the voice and the atmosphere and I stayed on that site for a long time listening to the track over and over again. I decided to find out some more about the music and info on the site told me that it was "Karen Overtone - Your Loving Arms" playing. The only right thing to do was to contact the siteholder, but couldn't wait for that, but I did it and waited for an answer. I googled "Karen Overtone" and found many results on dj playlists
I found out that the track was released on a compilation album called "Dream Dance Vol 40" and I found out that Karen Overton is the right name; not Overtone :) I also found out that she doesn't even have a website yet.
The compilation album is released by BMG but there are two independent companies who released it at first. The companies are Ego Music and Supra Recordings Ego Music is... I think italian and Supra Recordings are german.
When I find something new that I really like, I often buy it right away if I have the chance and I looked at the "local" CD shop; www.cdon.com and there it was: Dream Dance Vol 40
I bought it right away

This is how this "obsession" started and I would like to promote Karen Overton as much as possible... maybe the US market is ready for her?
