Kaspersky Anti-Virus Review

Get some more info on Kaspersky from an actual end user. I have used the product for over a year now and never want to switch to another anti-virus program!

A Brief Intoduction

So, if you're here then I'm assuming you're trying to get more information on Kaspersky Anti-Virus. I have been using the software for over a year and have not found any reasons to switch to an alternative. Originally I was one of the Norton/Symantec zealots... I thought Norton Anti-Virus was the be all end all of anti-virus... then I just sort of faded away from them, the main reason being it constantly crashed on me and it sucked my computer resources dry, bringing my computer to a screeching halt. I then began searching for an alternative, I've tried the free AVG which works well, but I would not say is very user friendly, CA Anti-Virus but again... not very friendly and at the time I couldn't find much information/support on it, then I came across Kaspersky Anti-Virus and I haven't considered switching since.

Part 1

User Interface

Kaspersky has a very clean and easy to read interface. You should have no problem navigating the program to find what you are looking for, whether it be to run a scan of your computer, perform an update or change configuation settings. I have never come across a program so easy to manipulate. Many times I have been asked by friends for help on how to use a specific program because they can't find what they are looking for, but everyone I know who has used Kaspersky has never complained about not being able to find something. The only thing I can remember is a friend having problem using a P2P problem, I suggested it may be Kaspersky blocking traffic, without even asking me for help he replied to me a couple minutes later thanking me for the tip and he got the file transfers going again.
Kaspersky definitely got it right with their UI, Norton, and especially AVG are no where close to being this user friendly.

Part 2

Virus Databases and Updates

One of the major aspects of anti-virus software is its quality of virus definitions and how often they are updated. Kaspersk Labs has their database setup so they can update it every hour which gives you great opportunities to get the latest updates as any time you want, not having to wait for a day or two before an update is available possibly leaving your computer open to an attack. Kaspersky updates are also almost instant as most updates are compressed to only tens of kilobytes, which even on dialup would be fast.
Another benefit of Kaspersky is the "Extended antivirus database". This allows your program to not only search for malicious software such as viruses, but also things such as remote administration programs and adware which is becoming a huge problem now. Many anti-virus programs either do not offer this feature or require a seperate purchase of an "Internet Security" Suite to get this benefit.

Part 3

Other Benefits

Kaspersky will easily integrate itself into Windows and will work alongside other security program such as firewall applications, something many other anti-virus programs do not offer.
Kaspersky also does well with offering Internet based security in the form of protecting your e-mail from viruses and scanning internet traffic (HTTP) real-time.
It will also check all running processes and things such as changes in the registry and changes in your filesystem ensuring background applications aren't perforuming unauthorized changes.

Part 4

Conclusion

In conclusion, Kaspersky is hands-down the best anti-virus application I have used. I have had friends asked for my recommendations regarding anti-virus software and I never suggest anything other than Kaspersky. With it's clean and easy to navigate interface, constant and fast updates and what I consider the best protection available for your computer, Kaspersky is the only anti-virus program you'll ever need.
