Katadyn Pocket Water Microfilter
I live in Peru, South America. Depending on where you go, the water may or may not be completely potable. As we travel, we like to be sure that we'll have a source of potable water. That's why we always travel with a Katadyn Pocket Water Microfilter.
Whether you travel internationally or enjoy spending time in the wilderness, you'll find that having a hand held water treatment system can come in very handy - and there is none better than Ketadyn. It's ceramic filter element filters out anything larger than 0.2 microns, giving you clean, clear drinking water no matter where you are.
You'll find it easy to use, too, with a ergonomic round pump handle and an easy-to-connect outlet hose.
Why Choose the Katadyn Pocket Water Microfilter
What makes it so great?
The filter is impregnated with silver to prevent microbial growth, and has a lifetime capacity of 13,000 gallons. That means if you filtered a gallon of water a day, the filter would last over 35 years!
Backpackers and campers often have a very limited amount of space for packing. The Katadyn microfilter takes up much less space and weight than carrying water in flasks or bottles. It's only 2.4 x 10 inches in size, and weighs in at 20 ounces. That's only a few ounces heavier than the competition, and when you realize that the Katadyn filters at 0.2 microns while the other are at 0.3, you'll realize the small amount of extra weight is worth it.
The others also have filters that need to be replaced frequently, while the Katadyn has a washable filter that lasts for years.

The Katadyn Pocket Filter is my choice among portable water filters. Backpackers usually try to go with the absolute lightest equipment, and it's true that the Katadyn Pocket is a couple ounces heavier than the competition. But it is a better filter, and does a better job at filtering out microbes and silt - I think the increased filtering capabilities are worth the extra couple of ounces.
