Katakune - A Great Preschooler Cartoon Series

The lens is all about Katakune - the new preschooler animation series that is all about parenting and kids.

Katakune is an original and unique 3D animated cartoon created for children 2 to 5 years old.

Created and produced by Character Farm (a subsidiary of Mediafreaks), Katakune is designed to fill the gaps where most preschooler cartoons fail to do so. Whilst most preschooler cartoons focused mainly on things like counting and spelling, Katakune places emphasis on social interaction and EQ based topics. The cartoon series was later jointly produced with China's Wogee Toons in association with Mega Media and supported by the Media Development Authority of Singapore.

The brainchild and originators of Katakune are Xavier Feng and Aldric Chang.

Educational and entertaining, Katakune shows children simple ways to deal with complex concepts of social responsibility, friendship, life skills and value systems. Subjects in basic science, geography, mathematics, health and hygiene, environmental issues and creativity are dealt with too.

Target Demography: 2-5 year olds
Format: 3D animated series
Duration: 52 x 11' or 260 x 2'

This Squidoo lens was written by Aldric Chang - a creative businessman who is active in music composition and production, internet marketing, casual games production, animation production, cartoon production and character licensing.

His 3d animation studio - Mediafreaks - is focused on producing high-end animation work for documentary producers, advertising houses and cartoon animated series - with projects ranging from the animation of dinosaurs to the visualization of natural disasters and something as chic as 3d jewelry animations. He runs a popular animation blog where he frequently posts informative articles on the animation industry and shares useful advice on the business of animation.

Katakune and Friends

Katakune is the star of our show! A likeable and adorable silkworm, Katakune is kind hearted, helpful and enthusiastic. Katakune and his friends live in the wonderful and colourful world of Tazzleland.

Tazzleland was born from a star called Imagination, and thus all its inhabitants have plenty of imagination for their inventions and stories. Katakune and his friends are still very young, and as a result they make some mistakes along the journey of growing up. But this paves the way for learning, and it makes life anything but dull. Join Katakune and his friends in Tazzleland, as they learn about their environment, life, friendship, social responsibilities, safety, new ideas and objects and many more!

Katakune Nurtures a Child's Development

Great effort was taken to ensure that every Katakune show inculcates good values and imparts a certain knowledge or skill. Our stories are written in a way that nurture a child in the following areas:

Emotional
Social
Cognitive
Meta Cognitive
Moral and Ethical

Katakune is Great Fun to Watch!

Katakune believes that kids are becoming increasingly intelligent and they should no longer be patronized by boring toddler shows. Katakune shows are great fun to watch and even parents will find them entertaining! Learning while having great fun is the mandate of all Katakune shows!

Introducing Katakune - The Cutest Silkworm in the World

Katakune is generally a really good kid silkworm. He is thoughtful and considerate towards others all the time, making him very likeable and approachable. Katakune is always looking for new things to learn and new activities to do. He strongly believes that by constantly improving himself, he can become the 'perfect worm'!

Louie the Helpful Bee

Louie is Katakune's best friend. Louie is a very kind-hearted bee and has many things in common with Katakune. He loves making friends with flowers but tends to be too clumsy and rough with them sometimes. Looks like Louie has to improve somewhat on his manners.

Benny the Oriental Beetle

Benny's family is very wealthy. They have a mansion in the countryside, where he likes to invite his friends for gatherings and show off his latest clothes and toys. His family loves collecting anything oriental, and this is always reflected in his dressing. He is an expert on Chinese cuisine and can whip up really good Chinese food. Benny loves dressing differently and gets really upset if nobody compliments it. His friends try to accommodate but are really finding it a hassle! All of Benny's clothes are fashioned after designs from the ancient Chinese era.

Tyko the Grumpy Porcupine

Tyko is the exact opposite of Benny in terms of character. Whilst Benny likes to take his time to do things, Tyko can't stand leaving things undone. However, nature has it that Tyko is blessed with stumpy legs and moves excruciatingly slow. Tyko likes to hug his friends, but always ends up hurting them instead. As a last resort, he joined the Gentle Spikes Group and has since learnt how to change his hairdo so that he longer hurts his friends. His efforts have paid off and he has more friends than ever now!

Katakune Helps Train a Kid's Focus

Kids between ages 1-6 are extremely receptive and easily influenced by things around them. If they are over stimulated at a young age, they may develop attention deficiency problems which would affect their learning abilities well into their later years. Katakune is developed to train a kid's focus.

Animation | Christmas Hats

It's Christmas and Katakune is opening presents from Benny, Louie and Tyko. To Katakune's surprise they're all Christmas hats! Which one should Katakune wear so that he doesn't offend anyone? Katakune gets a bright idea and wears all of them at the same time!

Katakune Loves Team Work!

Katakune emphasizes team work and cooperation amongst friends. This helps to inculcate good social habits in young children so that they grow up to be confident and popular in school.

Well-balanced Colors and Designs

Katakune characters are designed to be round and colorful as kids of this demography are attracted to roundish shapes and bright colors. The white and sparse background is designed to help the child stay focused on the story instead of being distracted by unncessary blotches of colors.

Animation | No More Sweets

Benny is looking rather chubby these days, and he is determined to lose weight by not eating sweet foods anymore. Poor Benny has to turn down all the offers of sweet cakes and ice cream. But finally Benny couldn't resist, and ends up eating a whole plate of pudding. Poor Benny finds that eating healthily is a better way to diet.

Katakune is Culturally Enriching!

Katakune exposes kids to a vast variety of cultures and activities. The above story exposes kids to the art of drinking tea the Asian way. Katakune wants kids to be knowledgeable%uFF0Cconversant and confident so that they develop a positive self esteem.

Narration Helps Child Stay Focused

The narration also helps to train the child's focus as he would have to listen to it carefully to understand the stories. As the characters are designed to be mouthless, the child will have to observe the body language of the characters and give his full attention to the narration.

Animation | Buying a Pen

Katakune need to buy a pen and sets out with money in his pouch. Along the way he gets distracted by sweets, cakes and toys. So instead of buying a pen, Katakune ends up buying lots of things he doesn't really need! Poor Katakune has now spent all his money, but still hasn't bought what he really needs!

Katakune Likes to Work!

Katakune shares a little bit of the working world just to show kids what happens in a workplace and how to work and collaborate with your friends and colleagues to get a job well done!

Friendly 2 Minute Episodes to Avoid Over-Stimulation

In order not to tire out the child and over-stimulate him, we have designed each episode to be just 2 minutes in length. This makes it easy for the child to absorb the morale of the story and learn from it. This also makes it easy for a parent to plan a child's TV activities.

Katakune Loves Sports!

Katakune and his friends love sports! In the cartoon series kids will get to learn about many different kinds of sports activities and also why exercise is good for keeping them fit and healthy.

Katakune Learns from Mistakes!

Katakune and his buddies are not perfect and they get into tiny scraps of trouble every now and then. But through such incidents they learn from their mistakes and also more about themselves!

Katakune Encourages Healthy Eating!

Katakune is a greedy little silkworm and learns through tummy upsets and toothaches that healthy eating and moderate consumption of sweets is necessary for him and his friends to stay healthy. Thomas and Willy here would make sure of that!

Animation | The Right Bait

Katakune is very excited to be going fishing for the first time. But Katakune is trying to catch fish by using leaves as bait, no wonder he hasn't caught anything! He soon falls asleep and dangles his foot into the water. Ocky the octopus mistakes Katakune's foot for a tasty bait, and takes a nibble. After this, Katakune goes home with Ocky as his first catch!
