Kate Phizackerley's Gallery of Images for Squidoo Lenses

I explain in my popular lens how images can be stored in one lens for use in another lens. So this is my gallery of images for use in other lenses.

That doesn't mean you aren't welcome to visit, because I am delighted to show you round. For each of the images here you'll find either a credit if it's a photo by another photpgrapher, or some background if it's one of my own photos or images. As an added bonus, I have also showcased my Flickr feed. Some of the images are also available for your to use on your own lenses under a Creative Commons attribution license - each image will tell you what license I have chosen. (Generally if I don't have commercial plans for an image I make it available for others to use.)

Hummingbird on Sugar is a modest rework of a photo of a hummingbird I use on another lens, but reworked specially as the Intro photo for this lens. I wanted something bright but abstract so I softened the photo down in Photoshop. It's still recognisably a humingbird but the background has been blurred. Ideally I would have shot it with a very tight depth of field in the first place but I didn't have my Nikon DSLR with me and it's for effects like that were it is essential as I achieved with the shot of the Chinese Lantern shown further down this lens.

Kate uses a Nikon Digital Camera

My very first SLR was a Minolta which my parents gave me for my 21st birthday present. I was very upset when it was stolen. I took the opportunity to upgrade to Nikon and since then my main SLR camera has always been Nikon. (I also have a handbag size camera which takes amazingly good photos for it's size, but just can't match the Nikon in terms of flexibility or ability to create a truly great image.)

Licensing

All of my own photos and images on this lens may be used subject to the following terms:

☄ the photo is credited as © Kate Phizackerley;

☄ the image is not sold commercially;

☄ it must the clear that I am not responsible for any content associated with the image;

☄ if hosted online, the image is linked with a do-follow link to this web page; and

(Note: if you cannot provide a do-follow link as specified, you may not reproduce the image.)

Terms for photos by any other photographer's images are as shown against them.

Higher resolution images may be available upon request.

I usually scale the images I use on Squidoo to a width of between 300px and 600px, depending on their use. I have full size copies of most images on my hard disk. How high the resolution is depends on which camera I had with me and when they were taken. If you get in touch and need a higher resolution than 600px for something, then let me know. Generally for non-commercial applications, I am happy to supply the original files. For commercial applications, unless you are willing to pay, sorry, but you'll need to make do with the lower resolution ones I have uploaded. (I make an exception for Squidoo and non-commercial blogs and am happy to supply images upto 800px wide if available.)

Bruce Lee, Hong Kong

Bruce Lee Statute, Hong Kong Harbour

It rained most of the time I spent in Hong Kong. Hong King is used to that and you can get around most of the main areas undercover, but rain is rotten for photography. What it wasn't raining, it was overcast. Then at the end of one of my two days there, the sun broke through briefly and I caught this shot of the famous Bruce Lee statue against the backdrop of the Hong Kong skyline and harbour. The only sadness is the railings around the base of the statue.

Deir-el-Bahri

(Queen Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple, Luxor)

This is a striking image of one of the top tourist sites. The quality is somewhat imperfect as it is scanned from film - I didn't have a digital camera back in 1997! About a week later tourists were massacred by terrorists who stormed the temple.

West Lake, Hangzhou

The West Lake was incredibly beautiful - and hard to photograph as it was the most humid place I have ever been. If the lens cap was kept on, the lens would mist over almost instantly when removed; and if left off the water in the air would steadily settled on the filter anyway. On top of that the air was misty with the saturated water. So I have surprisingly few good photos.

I like this one because it combines a foreground and background both of which are authentically Chinese. I've cropped some of the water off the bottom to get a better aspect ratio for online viewing.
