Kate Phizackerley's Saxophone Lenses

Ranked #11,467 in Music, #312,012 overall

I have now got so many saxophone lenses that I have created this separate lensography just for them. If you have landed here by mistake and were looking for my main lensography, please just click the link. The lens is in three sections:

Instruments - saxophones
Music (including sax solos)
Saxophonists

At the heart of my series of lenses is the poll where readers can vote for the greatest sax solo ever (or for the best sax solo if that's how you prefer to think of it), which is beng extended with special decade-based compilations.

Saxophones

Soprillo Saxophone

Small but perfectly formed this beautiful little instrument is the smallest saxophone.
Loading

Tenor Saxophone

So many of the sax solos I have written about and enjoy are played on the tenmor sax that inevitably I wanted a lens just about the tenor saxophone which sits right at the middle of the saxophone family of instruments.
Loading

Bass Saxophone

Not the Biggest Saxophone Ever

When I was compiling the biggest saxophone ever, I had already found material about the bass saxophone and only at the last minute discovered the contrabass - so I still published the lens but with a new title!

Contrabass Saxophone

The Biggest Saxophone Ever

I had always assumed that the bass saxophone was the biggest instrument in the saxophone family until I came to put together a lens about the biggest saxophone ever ... and discovered the contrabass saxophone. It's an amazing instrument - but I am not sure that I like it's sound. Take a listen and decide for yourself.

Sax Music & Solos

God Made Me Funky

Funkiest Sax Solo

This is an amazing sax solo that you really must hear
Loading

Hungry Eyes

Cheesiest Sax Solo Ever

In making most of my other picks - funkiest sax solo ever, nuttiest sax solo etc - I was pretty confident that I had found the right track to feature, but for the cheesiest sax solo there were so many strong contenders that I am really unsure. Anyway, Hungy Eyes - for now at least - has got my vote ... unless you know better.

Lily Was Here

Best Sax Solo

Although Will You got my vote as the greatest sax solo, I am not immune to the appeal of Lily Was Here and gave it the acolade of "best sax solo". Read the lens to listen to the music and understand the distinction I am making.

Purple People Eater

Nuttiest Sax Solo Ever

Recommending a sax solo in a track by Alvin and the Chipmunks sounds nutty ... until you listen to it. It's nore just nutty, it's actually a rather good sax solo.
Loading

Only the Alvin and the Chipmunks version qualifies as the nuttiest sax solo, but there are other versions of this song with different but equally great sax solos. I featured a number of them in my Purple People Easter lens.

Will You

Greatest Sax Solo

Will You got my vote as the greatest sax solo. You can listen to it here and read why, for me, this is the greatest sax solo.

Saxophonists

Clarence Clemons

Saxophonist

Perhaps the most famous rock saxophonist, the Big Man Clarence Clemons has played with many stars but it is work with Bruce Springstein and the E Street Band for which he is best known.
Loading

Candy Dulfer

Saxophonist

This lens appears twice in the anthology because my write up of Lily Was Here includes a biography of the Dutch saxophonist Candy Dulfer as well.
Loading

Ensemble Squillante

Ensemble Squillante is an amazing group of nine saxophonists playing ensemble. They play a variety of sizes from soprano saxophone up to bass saxophone.
