Kate Spade started as a handbag company. It quickly developed to include shoes, home decor and apparel, clothing, beauty products, eyewear, and stationary. Kate Spade also includes a complement men's line called Jack Spade.Kate Brosnahan, Kate Spade owner and designer, started as an accessories editor at Mademoiselle. Kate noticed a need for classic shapes and modern graphic and ultimately developed her line to reflect this.
Kate Spade's first store opened in 1993 in New York City's SoHo. Today, there are over 60 Kate Spade boutiques worldwide.
