History Of Katherine's Collection Dolls

Katherine's Collection started trading in 1994, Katherine and Wayne Kleski only needed $3,000 but the banks refused them!! Also they started in their living room to start their business that now boasts $8.1 million in annual sales.
Of the four employees with whom the husband and wife team began the business, three were family members. This year, Katherine's Collection at Silver Lake looks Drastically different - the Kleski's employ over 55 people and recently outgrew their facility in Twinsburg. The duo has a history of consistent growth, which seems likely to continue.
Wayne Kleski worked in the gift industry for 25 years before going into business with his wife. He creates original designs that Katherine sells through gift trade shows. Their line of dolls, decorative eggs, ornaments and other collectibles is recognized by agents for niche catalogue companies and esteemed department stores. Also online collectible dolls sites like World Gifts Store who supplies their dolls to the UK and Europe and also to the USA.
"It can be gruelling," Katherine Kleski says of the trade-show circuit. 'Well ship 8,000 to 10,000 pounds of product to a show."
There stands are unique magical! You can tell its katherines collection stand as there always loads of people viewing there range of items. After 30 hours of booth set-up, trade shows usually last four days. Kleski and her crew then clean and pack up the supplies and ship them on to the next show despite the long hours, Kleski says the trade shows are important to customers because it is their only chance to buy Wayne's exclusive designs.
"We're usually the last ones out of the show," says Kleski. "Our booths are crowded because participants know we don't produce a catalogue or have salespeople calling them. it creates an excitement - people know they can't buy our products later."
One reason behind the Kleski's' success is that they sell to retailers, not wholesalers. In effect, they have nearly 12,000 customers instead of 30, which allow them to control which stores sell their items.
"Too many people in the industry try to copy and sell the same product to the mass merchants, the discount store and the regular gift store," says Wayne Kleski. That is why they only let high quality gift companies promote there lines.

How Katherine's Collection Design There Dolls
Unique Holiday Designer Wayne Kleski
Katherine and Wayne Kleski and his working hard team will full fill your holiday displays this season, before we start let's just tell you a little about this unique collection, Katherine's collection at silver lake are base in Ohio where they employ a number of highly trained staff and artiest, to create such outstanding dolls and gifts. Wayne works hard with his team to create a perfect Nish for everyone to enjoy, every season there collection are only made of one to two seasons only and this makes the collection become a collectable piece. Decorative living carry a unique collection for every holiday season, and one of their members of staff that has been working at decorative living for sometime said the photos do no justice to the dolls, once you see them in real life you will start to collected away as there out stunning to detail. Wayne said Katherine's collection products are unique and special because we take the time to ensure that each piece is made with multiple materials. Each piece is reviewed over and over again to be sure that our team has created the best piece we can.
One reason behind the Kleskis' success is that they sell to retailers, not wholesalers. In effect, they have nearly 12,000 customers instead of 30, which allows them to control which stores sell their items.
He says these pieces are definitely conversation starters at a holiday gathering or during an intimate family get-together. "They will draw family and friends into your home and wish them wonderful memories when they depart, My favourite pieces are those dolls that can fill a room with conversation and laughter."
Kleski started working as a designer in 1969 after graduating from high school. He worked as a floral designer in Akron, Ohio, and spent some time designing for an import company in the area. He also mentored under a home accessories designer, and soon started to develop his own style.
"My design is stimulated and inspired by the past. Museums and flea markets are my library," Kleis says. "I am very colour-driven I love to mix colour and textures. I have always enjoyed combining period costumes with different characters. I am one of the few, lucky people in this world that has been able to develop a successful career based on what I truly love to do, creating items of visual interest for myself and others."
When we asked what his inspiration was, Kleski said, "I always claim that it is my poor eyesight! Sometimes I will see something from afar and get excited because I think it is something sensational. When I get closer, I find that what I thought I saw doesn't even exist and it is the basis for a new design or a new creation for myself.
"When I was a child, one of my favourite holiday memories was lying on the floor almost completely under the Christmas tree and looking up at the branches filled with bright colored bubble lights and silver icicles. My thoughts and imagination would just run free. That visual stimulation, combined with things that I see afar, can spark an idea that will be basis for a new collection or a new item."
After he thinks of an idea, Kleski starts developing a story for a specific figure. He shares his brainstorming with his design team, and invites their help on solidifying that story. "Each of my dolls has a story: a past, present and future. For example: If our woodland Santa has just awoken from a winter slumber to see spring fairies at work to bring a new breath of spring to the forest, the collection would be a mix of colours and items that would help describe that transition of seasons. Once the costume is drawn and fabrics are plugged, the seamstress brings the figure to life. Lastly, Kleis personally reviews every cut, seam, and trimming to ensure that his design has been accurately translated. "If you look at my dolls, you will see a passion and love in each and every one. Each one-of-a-kind piece has a special sparkle in their eye from being hand-painted. Each has a closeness to my heart from the amount of time I spend working to make it the best I can.
As for general holiday decorating, Kleis recommends sticking with accents that you love. "Decorate your home everyday, and especially at the holidays, with the things that make you feel comfortable. Trends are fun to follow, but always remember to keep your heirloom pieces close at hand.
