Kathleen E. Woodiwiss Romance Writer
In 1972 Kathleen Woodiwiss took the world by storm when she published Flame and the Flower a lusty romance novel about a sea captain and a beautiful maiden he accidentally abducts.
Since that time Woodiwiss has released a total of 13 books all of which have become best sellers.
Three reasons to love Kathleen Woodiwiss
1: She wrote the first historical romance. Stating a whole new style of romance writing.2: She always has strong female characters who always manage to over come obstacles set in their way.
3: Steamy love scenes without being smutty. These are books you could let your teenage daughter read.
Kathleen Woodiwiss at a Glance
Trailblazing romance author Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, who is credited with inventing the modern historical romance novel, died Saturday. She was 68. Woodiwiss broke onto the scene in 1972 with The Flame in the Flower. The book, which featured such now standard genre tropes as a historical backdrop and flashy sex scenes, was an anomaly in its day, according to her longtime publisher Avon Books, and went on to become a huge bestseller, selling over two million copies after its first four years in print.
Avon published all of Woodiwiss's 13 novels in paperback, while Morrow published her in hardcover. She was, as bestselling author Susan Elizabeth Phillips put it, a towering figure in the genre. Books by Kathleen Woodiwiss
Quick, what do you think of Kathleen Woodiwiss?
Birmingham Family Saga Series
This is a continuing series of books about various members of the Birmingham Family. From sea captians to plantation owners the men in these books are handsom, ruggid and seen to have a knack for getting into trouble.
What I love about these books is just when you think you have it figured out and you know how it will end....BANG! Big left turn and the book goes off in a completely different direction.

How I discovered Woodiwise
Back in 1987 I was working in an all female company. One of my coworkers had brought the book Ashes in the Wind, by Kathleen Woodiwise to read during her lunch hour. She was telling us how good the book was and soon the book was ripped in two. She kept the half she had not read yet and let us read the part she was done with. Soon the book was divided again as different people were reading at different speeds. Our whole office was caught up in the book. On our breaks we would go hunting for who had the next section of the book so we could read it. It was great fun. Eventually we all started buying our own books. I now own all her books in hard back and in paperback. I have read and reread them many times. Latest book by Kathleen Woodiwiss

- My first historical romance was SHANNA at the age of 16. I have since gone on to read many of her books and recently purchase some in hard back form to read over and over again. Her writing will be sorely missed.

- I do like this genre for light summer reading. But, I don't think I've read any of her books. Thanks for giving me a new author to seek out, and, I am sure - to enjoy. Good job.
