When the skeleton of a young girl, not yet a teenager, is discovered in Acadia, Canada, Tempe Brennan is reminded of Evangelina, her best friend in her preteen years, who was mysteriously taken away when she was twelve.Evangelina was from the strange and faraway place, Acadia. Tempe uses the most recent advances in forensic linguistics to identify the old skeleton, while Ryan investigates the possibility of some kind of serial predator at work now.

Another great thriller from Reichs !
I have been a fan of this series from the beginning and unlike many series I still find myself eating this up like popcorn! I must admit I am a CSI fan and the whole forensic anthropology science I find fascinating. I also identify with Dr. Brennan, I am not a doctor nor an investigator but some of the domestic issues have hit home with me.
This time out Temperance is trying two ID a couple of bodies at the animus the animus of the local populace which already has tried there suspect in the court of pubic opinion. I don't want to give to much away but the story mixes in voodoo magic, a fundamentalist preacher who is after devil worshipers, dirty politics, and even male prostitution! But central to the story is a great thriller that kept me turning the pages. Good Characters, great plot wrapped around a fascinating crime scene mystery. Not great literature but good entertainment for a weekend at the beach. - Sara Chung, SF, CA, USA

Kathleen Joan Toelle "Kathy" Reichs See inogolo:pronunciation of Kathy Reichs: phonetic "Rikes". (born 1950 in Chicago) is an American crime writer, forensic anthropologist and academic. She is a professor of anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, but is currently on indefinite leave. List of faculty at UNCC She divides her time between work for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, State of North Carolina, and for the Laboratoire des Sciences Judiciaires et de Médecine Légale for the province of Quebec. She is one of only seventy-seven forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of Forensic AnthropologyList of ABFA Diplomats and is on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Her schedule also involves a number of speaking engagements around the world. Reichs has been a producer for the TV series Bones.

Forensic Anthropologist
Temperance Deasee Brennan is a fictional character created by author Kathy Reichs and is the hero of her crime novel series. She was introduced in Reichs' first novel, Déjà Dead, which was published in 1997. Like her creator, Brennan is a forensic anthropologist, who divides her time between work in North Carolina, and working in Montreal for the Laboratoire des Sciences Judiciaires et de Médecine Légale for the province of Quebec. Brennan is divorced and has a daughter named Katy. Throughout the books, she is constantly meeting with Detective Andrew Ryan and has developed a romance with him.
The character shares the same name with the protagonist of the American television series, Bones, whose character was not based on Reichs' books or the Brennan of her books but rather on the author herself.Goldman, Eric, "Digging Up Secrets With the Cast of Bones", IGN, May 31, 2007.
