A lensography

I'm a lensmaster, webdesigner an oldest child, an eternal student, a former teacher and single.

Most of you know me here on Squidoo as lensmaster 'spirituality' - but I've also got a life outside my interests in spirituality (though perhaps that's not often noticeable). Anyhow on this lens I showcase my non-spiritual lenses and tell you all a bit more about myself.

[BTW the picture is of me jumping in a sack, in some sort of race at my first paid job as a teacher. I wasn't the best teacher they'd ever seen, but as you can see I did have a good time - some of the time.]

Where, When, How

I was born in 1974 in Utrecht, The Netherlands (that's Europe). I was born a month early, so I spent my first weeks in an incubator. We soon moved, after my first brother was born, to Groningen, another town in The Netherlands. My dad got a job there as an assistant professor in mathematics at university.

We moved for a year to the United States when I was 12 - which is where I learned the basis of my English. Then back to the Netherlands.

Health, food, beauty

I'm actually not much of a fashionista, though I do try and look decent - but then, who doesn't. I am, I guess, a bit of a health freak, a vegetarian and I abstain from alcohol. Here are some of my health related lenses.

Eternal Student

I've been in college on and off since high school.

I began as a Chemistry major - but quit because I wasn't getting the grades.

I went on to nursing school, where I failed on the practical side of things.

Then I became a teacher of math and chemistry. This is the first college after High School I actually finished - so I have two bachelors degrees from a teachers college. I tried teaching for three years, but found out that I'm not really cut out for that.

Next I went back to university to study the love of my life: religion and spirituality. I'm still there, hoping to get my BA degree in the summer of 2008.

Good causes: Amnesty International

I feel it's important to reach out and contribute to a better world. Unfortunately I don't have all that much money to spare. The one good cause I have supported since my first years in college (more than 10 years ago) is Amnesty International.

But I may also end up making lenses on the environment (yes, global warming is real) and other good causes I believe are worth fighting for.

The lenses in this category will donate their proceeds to the good causes they are about - if the cause is listed for charity within Squidoo.

Former teacher

I have great admiration for anybody who succeeds at teaching teenagers, because I know just how hard it is. Whether you're a poor teacher or a good one - in my book you are still brave and amazing for the ability to survive in there.

Lensmaster lenses

I became a webmaster almost by accident 10 years ago or so - and am now making a living as a webpublisher and webdesigner. I've made a few lenses to make my (and your) lensmaster duties easier.

On the Squidoo star-system

0 stars
For squidoo members that means they did not think the lens was interesting enough to vote on. For non-squidoo members it just meant they couldn't vote.
1 star
Squidoo members who saw this lens DID think it was interesting enough to vote on, but they hated it.
2 stars
Squidoo members who saw this lens thought it was interesting enough to vote on, but they hated it.
3 stars
Squidoo members who saw this lens thought it was interesting enough to vote on, but they did not like it.
4 stars
Squidoo members who saw this lens did like it, but thought that it could be improved.
5 stars
Squidoo members who saw this lens loved it.

I'm not sure there's a difference between voting 1, 2 or 3 stars. It probably depends on things like the weather and the personality of the squidoo lensmaster whether they give 1,2 or 3 stars to a lens they do not like.

Web Design Books

These are books on topics I care about in my profession as webdesigner: SEO, accessibility, pure coding practices and people first.

More of me online

If that wasn't enough, you can also follow me on Stumbleupon where I blog on and off about anything that interests me. Or you can just find out about my spiritual interests on my spiritual lensography. I'm also on Myspace.

If you don't know that much about webdesign, myspace or search engine optimization, my website is a good place to start.
