Katy Perry, born Katheryn Hudson, on October 25th, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. Her music career began as a Christian artist, releasing her first CD "Katy Hudson" on Red Hill Records in 2001. Entering the mainstream music field, she switched to the surname "Perry" - her mother's maiden name. In 2005, her single "Simple" was released on "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" soundtrack. In 2006, she appeared on Christian-Rock group P.O.D.'s single "Goodbye for Now". Perry released an EP in 2007 entitled "Ur So Gay" and followed that up in 2008 with Capitol Records release of "One Of The Boys", her first full-length mainstream album. That album included the song "Ur So Gay" and the international hit "I Kissed a Girl". She was recruited be a headlining act on the high-profile 2008 Vans Warped Tour. Katy also appeared in a music video for Gym Class Heroes' "Cupid's Chokehold", a song famous for its use of Supertramp's hit "Breakfast in America". You know..."Take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only one I got...". In the video, art imitates life as Katy plays the eventual love-interest of real-life boyfriend, vocalist Travis McCoy.
