Homeopathy lectures by Vithoulkas - Pulsatilla
International Homeopathy teacher George Vithoulkas, talks about the homeopathic remedy Pulsatilla during one of his homeopathy courses at Alonissos. In addition, Prof Vithoulkas compares elements of Pulsatila to the materia medica of other homeopathic remedies, like Natrum Muriaticum, and makes some comments about the "doctrine of signatures" dogma.

Complexity in the Role of a Homeopath
In another instance I gave the same relative of mine Rhust Tox for his headache, then I was asked why are you giving me Rhus Tox for headache when you gave me that for my arthritis, how can you give the same medicine for different disease conditions?
The above two questions are valid and justified !
Job of an Allopath: Your questions are correct from the allopathic perspective of allopath. He prescribes a specific medicine for a specific disease which he gives to all his patients irrespective of their sex, age by altering the dosage if required.
Job of a Homeopath: He prescribes not for a specific disease but for an individual whose diseases are unique in its own way. He has to find a remedy that fits all the disease symptoms of a patient. E.g. arthritis, skin, mental symptoms, allergies, headaches etc. Which indeed is a tough job ! Just like we have one to many and many to many relationships in maths, here also a remedy can be given to numerous diseases for that particular patient if it matches symptoms with the unique symptoms of the remedy. So again out of 30 -40 arthritic remedies he chooses the most similar remedy for the patient. It is just like a puzzle in which we match all the pieces to make one. With respect to the above first instance it did not work for her mother though she had the same arthritic symptoms, because her modalities e.g. worse by motion and also her temperament is different e.g. irritable and easily gets angry, which needed another remedy i.e. Broyina.
Likewise in the second instance he was given Rhus tox for his headache because it matches with the symptoms of Rhust tox headache. Every remedy has its symptoms for all the parts of his body from head to foot, all diseases and acts on all organs.
The job is still not over because even if the remedy is correct, it will not act if the potency is not matched.
The practice of homoeopathy is thus not easy. Perhaps one factor that makes it difficult is that Homoeopathy is probably one of the very few scientific disciplines, which has a method of identification that begins with specifics, rather than going from the broad to the narrow. Each patient's state is to be identified into a remedy state. And this is done through symptoms alone.
When trying to identify the remedy for a patient, very often homoeopaths will go by specifics only. We can see the humor in this if the same procedure were to be followed for others things. It would be something like this: We start with three features of a thing to be identified, say... black... big.... moving. One person says, "Oh, I know! It's an elephant!" A second one identifies it as a black cloud, while a third is sure that we are talking of a steam engine. It is therefore no wonder that when it comes to prescribing the homoeopathic remedy for a patient there will be as many suggestions as there are homoeopaths.
Normally, a scientific discipline should ask - is it a living or a non-living thing? If living, is it a plant or an animal? If animal, is it a mammal or a snake? etc. And then if it is a mammal the black and big and moving narrows our choice down to two or three. Then we can go on to asking more specific questions to differentiate further. Similarly, our task would be made much easier if we were able to follow a system rather than a random search throughout the Materia Medica - a jungle in which we can easily get lost without maps and signposts.
So a Homeopath wants to know all the unique features of that individual for a precise remedy selection.
Down's syndrome- How can homeopathy help?
Being a genetic disorder cannot be cured by homeopathy. But there are cases improving with Homeopathy- their cognitive functions have improved, preventing and curing other illnesses associated with the syndrome, making them self-sufficient and hence increase their and their family's standard of living.
Kids with Down syndrome tend to share certain physical features such as a flat facial profile, an upward slant to the eyes, small ears, a single crease across the center of the palms, and an enlarged tongue.
Low muscle tone and loose joints are also characteristic of children with DS, and babies in particular may seem especially "floppy."
Most children with DS typically reach developmental milestones - like sitting up, crawling, and walking - later than other kids. At birth, kids with DS are usually of average size, but they tend to grow at a slower rate and remain smaller than their peers- These milestones can be taken care by homeopathy
For infants, low muscle tone may contribute to sucking and feeding problems, as well as constipation and other digestive issues-Homeopathy can help in these issues.
In toddlers and older children, there may be delays in speech and self-care skills like feeding, dressing, and toilet teaching- Along with other trainings and therapies homeopathy can help children with DS cope up with this.
Health concerns for individuals with Down syndrome include a higher risk for congenital heart defects, gastroesophageal reflux disease, recurrent ear infections, obstructive sleep apnea, and thyroid dysfunctions- Homeopathy can benefit in managing these issues. The health issues have to be taken care by anticipating, preventing and managing these issues.
Cognitive disorders vary from minor to major in DS. Mental retardation of variable levels is seen in these children. Kids with DS can and do learn, and are capable of developing skills throughout their lives. They simply reach goals at a different pace - which is why homeopathy can help. Kids with DS have a wide range of abilities, and there's no way to tell at birth what they will be capable of as they grow up, so homeopathy with other auxillary mode of treatment can be beneficial to them.
Potency and Repetition:
Being a genetic disorder, the potency has to be low to moderate- 30-200
Case- Taking: Peculiar behaviors, characteristic symptoms and physical generals.
