Welcome to Kayjo Designs

Kayjo Designs is a shop located on CafePress with my own tattoo designs on t shirts. Kayjo is a combination of my first initial from my first name and Jo is my middle name. (Hey, I thought it was clever at the time so I'm going to roll with this one.) ...Onward!

I create a wide variety of illustrations from dragons to koi fish to mummies to skulls and flowers. I update the shop AND blog fairly often so there are new designs and illustrations available at my CafePress shop. As time goes on, the designs and illustrations get better and better so the shop is constantly changing. Sometimes I do a little tweaking and digitizing to my original images. They are still unique because you won't find them anywhere else. I drew them!

Am I trying to promote my work? Absolutely. Hey, my own artwork might not be the best or the worst, but I firmly believe that my 27 years of scribbling has taken far more effort than any of these top brand names who just stick a logo on there and sell for $30 . And people actually buy that. I won't knock it too much, I buy brand name *stuff* too. I also buy my own products since I like my own work and like to see it on products; mainly t shirts.

Where to Buy Tattoo Designs on T Shirts

Kayjo Designs

Tattoo art is visually appealing. No matter what the subject is, it makes people take more than one glance. It could be a simple little design of a butterfly or an elaborate (and large) design of a koi fish surrounded by lotus flowers and anything else you can think of. How's that for stating the obvious?

I have designed a shop on CafePress for that specific category. It's called Kayjo Designs also (which is set up so it is categorized by design). That's what I do. I love CafePress because they offer more than t shirts (Like mugs, thermoses, keychains, magnets..etc)...heck, they've even got many different STYLES of t shirts available! I also keep adding more designs. I haven't really updated or done many newer designs lately because I have been working on writing and setting up my domain. Right now, I'm just using my blog and bought a domain name and magically turned my blog into my domain with a few clicks of my magic mouse.

I don't have any tattoos myself, but I do appreciate the artwork involved. Why? Because I'm an artist myself and I specialize in drawing and painting graphics. At least I think so..ha!

I've heard many times from people that I should design tattoos. Yeah, ok..I figure the tattoo world has enough designs and I'm just throwing my images into a HUGE ocean of images and they just blend in with the crowd..that's why I don't do it. I'd rather design for other products and have my own "thing". I'm stubborn that way. Tattoos are something that is permanent and you can never take it off your body...t shirts and other merchandise are more versatile that way.

I don't claim to be the best and not everybody is going to be a fan of my art. That is ok, we all have our own. My own personal styles and techniques change or evolve and sometimes remain the same. That's why I love art; there are hardly any rules and not one way is the RIGHT way; you find what works for you. (However, a little coaching and experimenting on various techniques never hurt anybody!)

Kayjo Designs Preview

This is my very first youtube video I created so it is quite "amateur". The purpose of the video is to showcase my own illustrations and what kinds of products are available with those on them. Kayjo Designs is a shop powered by CafePress. I even bought a couple of T shirts myself and the quality of the shirts themselves are darn good! I'm a satisfied customer haha

The short video basically just sums up my shop visually.

Why Dragons are "Cool"

Do you like t shirts with dragons on them? I do.

Do you recognize this dragon? This is the original dragon that I did some tweaking with. I have both the original and the "tweaked" dragon uploaded on my Kayjo Designs shop at CafePress.

Why dragons? You ask...dragons are COOL! I have a certain bias towards them and I'm not sure why I love them so much, but I do. Even when I was as young as 5 years old, I was enchanted with them and never grew out of it. I'm a geek that way, I guess.

After doing some research on the subject, I loved them even more. From what little information I have stored in my brain, the dragon myth comes from dinosaur fossils found long, LONG ago. Many of these fossils we recognize today are dug up China, which is why dragons may be such a huge part of their culture. (That might explain why I find dinosaurs just as awesome as dragons..hmmm). And I suppose, the myths and stories took off from there as we try to piece together the existence of these large animals. As humans, we're always searching for answers...and some of us can whip up fun stories to think about and ponder. Also, there's always a place for fantasy.

Yes, sometimes dragons are associated with evil..but mine aren't. Just because it looks scary, doesn't mean it's evil. I just wanted to clear that up. The way I see it, dragons are protectors..If you want to get corny about it, we could say that there's a dragon "in" all of us since we have something to protect whether it be ourselves, someone else, or some THING..anything.

The Hype Over Koi Fish

Koi Fish are so cute!

Relating to my post about dragons, the koi fish has some meaning behind it too. They symbolize prosperity, success, good fortune, ambition and the list goes on and on...all positive. How does this relate to the dragon? Well, the story goes: koi fish swim upstream and overcome many obstacles and challenges until they reach the top of the mountain to reach the 'Dragon gate'. The little koi becomes a fierce dragon..the ultimate "goal". As humans, we have something in common with the koi fish. Actually, it's pretty much all of life since we all 'grow' and try to better ourselves. Our success is up to us and luck plays a little role in this too.

Koi fish aren't something I've had a lot of practice at but I do like the way some of mine turn out. It's interesting how many similarities there are with dragon and koi fish (or any fish??) because of the "movements" they both make and the scales, eyes, etc.
