Keanu Reeves has played characters ranging from the air-headed Ted in BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE to futuristic hero Neo in THE MATRIX to Bob Arctor/Fred in A SCANNER DARKLY.
Keanu's latest theatrical release is STREET KINGS, a police drama/thriller, which opened in April and which will be out on DVD in August. He finished shooting the remake of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL with Jennifer Connelly. Keanu's next project is THE PRIVATE LIVES OF PIPPA LEE, a romantic comedy directed by Rebecca Miller.

A Basic Keanu Biography
Keanu Charles Reeves was born on September 2, 1964 in Beruit, Lebanon. His father was a geologist and his mother was a costume designer. He has a dual Canadian-British citizenship. His heritage is a mix, including English, Chinese and Hawaiian ancestry.He was named after an uncle. References for Hawaiian names give pronunciations for his name as "kay-AH-noo" but most often you hear people say "kee-AH-new." He was pressured to change his name to be less exotic when he first started acting, but his success has helped lead to a trend of actors with exotic names not changing them anymore.
He tends to be very private about his personal life and early in his career was known for answering personal questions with off-the-cuff answers where it was hard to tell if he was joking or serious. Now he still deflects inquires into his life, but the answers tend to be more thoughtful, although the enigmatic philosophical answer hasn't entirely fallen by the wayside.
He's been linked with a variety of actresses and girlfriends over the years but is still single. The daughter he had with girlfriend Jennifer Syme in late 1999 was stillborn and Syme herself was killed in a car accident in 2001.
For years Keanu lived primarily out of hotels despite making more than enough money to own a house. He's finally bought a house in a trendy part of Los Angeles and frequent bystander and paparazzi pics show him riding his motorcycle around town.

He plays the alien Klaatu, originated by Michael Rennie in the 1950s, who comes to Earth to warn us of our destructive tendencies towards ourselves. Although he appears clean-shaven in the majority of his movies, Keanu frequently grows a beard when he's not filming. Pictures of him in Vancouver, prior to the start of filming on THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, showed him sporting "the scruff." Now that he's promoting STREET KINGS, where he appears smooth-faced, he's been shaving again.

Keanu has had a lot of good luck in the science-fiction and horror genres. A SCANNER DARKLY is an amazing adaptation of the novel by Philip K. Dick, the most accurate adapation of any of his books to date. The MATRIX movies not only catapulted Keanu to the top of the action movie actor lists, they are the only times he's done sequels to a hit movie. CONSTANTINE is an adaptation of the Hellblazer graphic novels, and features Spielberg whiz-kid Shia LeBouf as Constantine's novice sidekick. THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE showcases Keanu opposite screen-great Al Pacino. And in Francis Ford Coppola's DRACULA, Keanu takes on the role of Jonathan Harker, who winds up battling Dracula for his beloved Mina.

Philosophical Keanu
Sometimes the philosophy is deep and sometimes it's kinda silly. In RIVER'S EDGE, Keanu was a teen conflicted about whether to tell on his friend who murdered a girl or not. BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE boiled life's philosphy down to "Dudes, be excellent to each other!" In MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO, he was a street hustler in Portland, torn between living his own life and the values and (wealthy) inheritance from his family. Keanu's role in this movie drew parallels and a few lines of dialog from Henry IV, Part 1. For Bernardo Bertulucci's LITTLE BUDDHA, Reeves plays the part of Prince Siddhartha, aka Buddha, in the story-within-the-movie as the little boy who is the main character learns about Buddhism. For the independent film THUMBSUCKER, Keanu is the main character's New-Age-tinged orthodontist, who tries to get him to give up his thumb-sucking habit.
