A Dollar a Day Saves Lives

A single dollar can make a difference in the life of a child with HIV. Keep A Child Alive is an urgent response to the AIDS pandemic ravaging Africa.

AIDS Statistics from Keep a Child Alive

AIDS turned 25 years old in 2006. AIDS is also the same age as the founding ambassador for Keep a Child Alive, Alicia Keys.
  1. It has affected every country in the world infecting 65 million people and killing 25 million.
  2. The face of AIDS is female. In Sub-Saharan Africa three women are infected for every two men and among 15-24 year olds three women are infected for every man.
  3. One tenth of the world's population live in Sub-Saharan Africa, yet they are home to almost 64 percent of all people living with AIDS.
  4. Nine in ten children with HIV live in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  5. In Africa, one in five female students reported that their first sexual experience had been coerced.

A Dollar Can Make a Big Difference

Just a dollar can make a big difference.

A Dollar a Day Makes a Difference

Life-saving AIDS medicine often costs less than a dollar a day, yet few families in Africa can afford a dollar a day.

Keep a Child Alive provides medical services needed to make treatment possible. Doctors, nutrition, testing, transportation, and treatment for opportunistic infections are all necessary for anti-retroviral treatment to be successful.

The Good Cents Initiative

Keep a Child Alive has launched of an innovative new program called 'The Good Cents Initiative.' They are partnering with businesses to help raise millions of dollars for the Keep a Child Alive mission.

For 'The Good Sense Initiative' they are asking companies to add one cent for Keep a Child Alive. That one cent maybe on the receipt for a cup of coffee, or a penny added to the price of a cd. It's about really small amounts that quickly add up to make a huge difference.

'The Good Cents Initiative' is designed to have very little cost to companies and a tiny cost to their customers. But it will generate enough money to provide millions of children in Africa and India with lifesaving AIDS medication, support services, and orphan care.

Remember less than a dollar a day keeps a child alive.
