Fucoidan Can Induce Apoptosis in Human Lymphoma Cell Lines

Fucoidan is a sulfated polysaccharide found mainly in various species of brown seaweed such as nori, kombu and wakame. Fucoidan have also been found in sea cucumber(Sea cucumber is a valuable Chinese foods remedy).

Substantial pharmaceutical research has been done on fucoidan, focusing primarily on two distinct forms: F-fucoidan and U-fucoidan. As a consequence of this research, U-fucoidan and F-fucoidan are now being marketed as a nutraceutical and food supplement.

Kombu or konbu, also called dashima or haidai, is edible kelp from the family Laminariaceae widely eaten in East Asia, such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong.

Kombu contains iodine, a mineral that is essential for normal growth and development. It is also a source of dietary fiber.

The amount of contents differ slightly because of season, time of harvesting, temperature, and nutrients available in the sea water and also the streaming which transports fresh nutrients.

In 1997, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved an Investigational New Drug Application for a portion of the mushroom.

DaikonDaikon is root vegetable in the family Brassicaceae(Cruciferous Vegetables), commonly available white in color. Daikon is also called White Radish, Japanese radish, Oriental radish, Chinese radish and Mooli. Despite being known most commonly by its Japanese name, it did not originate in Japan.

Although there are many varieties of daikon, the most common in Japan, the aokubi-daikon, has the shape of a giant carrot, approximately 20 to 35 cm long and 5 to 10 cm in diameter. One of the most unusually shaped varieties of daikon cultivated in Kagoshima Prefecture is the turnip-shaped sakurajima daikon, which often grows as large as 50 cm in diameter and weighs as much as 45 kg.

In Japanese cuisine, many types of pickles are made with daikon including takuan and bettarazuke. Daikon is also frequently used shredded and mixed into ponzu (a soy sauce and yuzu juice condiment) as a dip. Simmered dishes are also popular such as oden. Cut and dried daikon is called 'Kiriboshi-daikon'(literally, cut-dried daikon) which is a common method of preserving food in Japan. Daikon radish sprouts ('Kaiware-daikon') are used for salad or garnishing of sashimi.

Daikon is very low in food energy, high in dietary fiber, vitamin and anti-cancer compound. Daikon is a weight loss remedy, also used for other specific medicinal purposes.

Cauliflower: Powerful Cancer Fighting Vegetable

CauliflowerCauliflower is one of several vegetables in the family Brassicaceae(Cruciferous Vegetables). It is an annual plant that reproduces by seed. Typically, only the head (the white curd) of aborted floral meristems is eaten, while the stalk and surrounding thick, green leaves are used in vegetable broth or discarded. Cauliflower is nutritious, and may be eaten cooked, raw or pickled.

Its name is from Latin caulis and flower, an acknowledgment of its unusual place among a family of food plants which normally produces only leafy greens for eating.

Cauliflower and broccoli are the same species and have very similar structures, though cauliflower replaces the green flower buds with white inflorescence meristem.

Nutrition

Cauliflower is low in fat, high in dietary fiber, folate, vitamin C and carotenoids, possessing a very high nutritional density. As a member of the brassica family, cauliflower also contains several phytochemicals which are beneficial to human health, including sulforaphane, an anti-cancer compound released when cauliflower is chopped or chewed.

Boiling reduces the levels of anti-cancer compounds, with losses of 20-30% after five minutes, 40-50% after ten minutes, and 75% after thirty minutes. However, other preparation methods such as steaming, microwaving, and stir frying had no significant effect on the compounds.

Along with other brassica vegetables, cauliflower is a source of indole-3-carbinol, a chemical which boosts DNA repair in cells and appears to block the growth of cancer cells.

The compound also appears to work as an anti-estrogen, appearing to slow or prevent the growth of tumors of the breast and prostate. A high intake of cauliflower has been found to reduce the risk of aggressive prostate cancer.

Cauliflower also contains other glucosinolates besides sulfurophane, substances which may improve the liver's ability to detoxify carcinogenic substances.

Best Cancer Prevention Vegetable: Broccoli

Broccoli is rich in vitamins C, K, and A

BroccoliBroccoli is a plant of the Kale family Brassicaceae (formerly Cruciferae). Broccoli most closely resembles cauliflower, which is a different cultivar group of the same species.

Culinary

Broccoli is usually boiled or steamed, but may be eaten raw and has become popular as a raw vegetable. Boiling reduces the levels of suspected anti-cancer compounds in broccoli, with losses of 20 - 30% after five minutes, 40 - 50% after ten minutes, and 77% after thirty minutes.

However, other preparation methods such as steaming, microwaving, and stir frying had no significant effect on the compounds. Steaming broccoli for 3-4 minutes is recommended to maximize the anti-cancer compound, sulforaphane.

    60g broccoli
    100ml water

    Seasonings
    1 tbsp lemon juice
    honey or sugar to taste

    Method
    1. Cut broccoli into small pieces. Peel kiwi fruits and cut into slices.
    2. Put broccoli, kiwi fruits and 50ml of water into a blender and blend well.
    3. Add remaining water. Strain and pour into a glass.
    4. Stir in lemon juice and honey/sugar. Serve.

    Anti Cancer Diet: Chinese Cabbage Soup Recipe - Quick and Easy!

    Cancer Prevention Soup: Cheap and Nutrition!

     Chinese Cabbage SoupThis is one of my favorite vegetable soup. Healthy, tasty and easy, so I make this Chinese Cabbage soup at least twice a week.

    Ingredients
    - 250g Chinese Cabbage (also called Napa Cabbage)
    - 1 tomato
    - 1 egg
    - 2 slices ginger
    - some chopped spring onions

    Seasonings
    dash of salt
    dash of pepper
    3 teaspoon of oil

    Method
    1. Beat egg and stir it till well beaten. Cut tomato into slices and set it aside.
    2. Heat the oil and fry egg in a pot till the egg cooked. Let the egg stay in the pot.
    3. Bring 5 cups of water and add into the pot to a boil.
    4. Put Chinese Cabbage into the pot and cook it for 2 minutes.
    5. Add the slices ginger and tomato into the soup and cook it for 1 more minute.
    6. Put some chopped spring onions, pepper and salt into the soup.
    7. Combine well and serve!

    Wasabi not only prevents tumor growth, but also posses anti-bacterial properties. Regular consumption of wasabi will stop the growth of certain strains of bacteria that causes food poisoning.
