Keep Calm And Carry On Coffee Mug (And Story)

Keep Calm and Carry On was originally a slogan on a World War II poster. It was actually one of three posters with the design of this one meant to be used only if the war (World War II) got so bad that the general population needed to be told to "Keep Calm and Carry On."

Apparently, the poster was never displayed and most of the 2.5 million created were destroyed. As a matter of fact, there are only two known copies of this poster in existence.

One of those copies is owned by a secondhand bookstore named Barter Books in Britain. The store is located in an old railway station where the owners rediscovered the famous wartime poster with the slogan, Keep Calm and Carry On.

Upon requests from customers, they created a few and steadily more and more reproductions of the poster until eventually the 'Keep Calm' craze spread and, of course, other companies like those who manufactured the products on this page jumped on the bandwagon.

Now there is a legal battle underway in Britain as one of those companies tries to prevent others from using the slogan. It's a very interesting story, but one I'll save for another time...
