Skinny jeans. Flat bellies. Taut abs. Health. Longer life...
There are lots of reasons for keeping fit. Usually, people want to stay in shape or get in shape so they will look better - that's often the first reason. But there are other reasons for fitness that are more important than looking good. Physical fitness leads to overall better health, better mood and more longevity. Look at it this way, if you pursue a fitness lifestyle, you'll not only look better, you'll last longer and be in a better mood all the while!
Going to the gym regularly is a great way to stay fit, but let's face it - not all of us want to go to the gym and not all of us can afford to go to the gym, with it's expensive monthly membership fees. All is not lost. You can get fit at home just as easily as you can get fit at the gym. All you need is the commitment to do what it takes, a little will power, some basic equipment, and confidence in yourself to do it!
Let's take a look at what it would take for you to either get into shape or stay in shape without a single trip to the gym.
You might be surprised at what you can do!

The Wii Fit
One of the newest, best and most enjoyable ways to get fit is with the Wii Fit. Of all the new innovations that are out there, leave it to the people who developed this video game console to come up with a way to stay fit.The Wii Fit is a home fitness package that includes 48 fitness related games or activities and the Wii Balance Board, which is a wireless device that measures body mass index. You might not even want to know what your body mass index is, but the Wii will tell you anyway, and then help you get it to where it needs to be. Incorporating yoga, strength training, aerobics and balance games into your fitness routine, the Wii is a perfect home fitness tool.
If the Wii isn't your style, you can go a bit old school and choose exercise DVDs. Way back when, it was exercise VHS tapes - that really was old school! Now you can pop in a DVD that will lead you through any type of workout you can imagine - yoga, aerobics, dance, strength training, Pilates, kick-boxing - you name it! One of the nice things about exercise DVDs is that you can purchase a variety so that you can change up your exercise routine - you'll never get bored! And with variety, your body will get a more balanced fitness program, too.

Using Some Basic Equipment
For those who like equipment, but aren't into the gym scene, try outfitting your home with some tried and true standard equipment. This could include an exercise bike, a treadmill or an elliptical trainer, which are all great for burning calories, strengthening your cardio-vascular system and boosting metabolism. You could add some free weights to the mix - perfect for toning and building muscles and increasing your metabolism, too. A combination of these pieces of equipment would be ideal, again so that you don't get bored and that your body gets a comprehensive fitness workout.
Some people purchase exercise equipment and then just let it sit in the corner, gathering dust, or being used as a place to toss your clothes if you're too lazy to hang them up. Don't let this happen. That equipment won't help you get fit if it's being used as a makeshift closet!

Super Fitness With Pole Dancing
And no, you don't have to be a stripper!
For those who are thinking that getting in shape should be fun, pole dancing could be the perfect way to get fit! Yes, I'm suggesting the kind of pole dancing that exotic dancers do (but you get to leave your clothes ON)!Pole Dancing is surprisingly tiring, and will quickly turn you super sexy and fit, all from home.
Even though you might not consider yourself the type to enjoy pole dancing, everyone has their sexy side, and pole dancing can be fun without being raunchy.
Plus, it's an EXCELLENT workout!
Poles don't have to be permanently installed in your home, so you don't have to worry about putting the thing up and then having your mother-in-law finding it in your family room when she comes to visit.
You can find pole dancing classes in many areas, but since we're discussing getting fit at home, I will suggest that you look into some of the DVDs that are out that teach pole dancing fitness techniques.
