Portable Sinks: Keep Your Kids Clean

Ranked #123,611 in Healthy Living, #1,180,956 overall

I'm making this page because last year my son caught a nasty skin infection from playing with other kids at his daycare. The nasty rash soon spread to all the kids, and eventually we found out that the whole thing could have been prevented if there had been a portable sink outside for the kids to wash up at before lunch.

My story

I think the happiest moments of my day are when I pick up my kids from daycare. Regardless of whatever they're doing, their faces light up in a huge smile when they see me. Nothing can duplicate that feeling. It's pure joy!

Although sometimes it's a little bittersweet when I see my youngest, Carys. The bitter part comes into play when I notice she's in back-up daycare clothes. That can only mean one thing, there's something waiting for me in her diaper bag...and it ain't pretty.

I walk over to where it's hanging and there it is, peeking out of the top. It's a plastic grocery bag all tied up with the great unknown inside. It's a grab bag of deception. Because the handles of the bag, when knotted up, actually look like a bow! It's certainly NOT a gift I want to unwrap! I just hope for the best and throw the bag over my shoulder. Maybe Carys just had a really messy lunch. The question is, which end did it come out of?

Once home, I ignored it for a couple of hours, silently hoping some little laundry fairy would take care of it. When that didn't happen I braced myself for the worst and cut open the bag. The smell that nearly knocked me over gave me the answer I was looking for earlier. The origin of the mess was solved.

Now to assess the spill. I grabbed as little of the pants as I possibly could and lifted them out of the bag. This was a bad one. On a scale of 1 to 10 this was about an 8.5. No matter how I try to turn those little pants inside out, it's nearly impossible to come out unscathed. Thank goodness I refilled all the hand soap dispensers.

I take the pants over to the sink in the laundry room to rinse and soak them. You see, I have a bowl set aside specifically for spills. But when I look down in the sink to get it, my husband already had something soaking! Once again, bittersweet moment. He's finally learned to soak spills and not just throw them in the dirty clothes for me to find later. That's a good thing. The problem is, he didn't turn the pants inside out or rinse them out first! It was a bowl of pure nastiness!!!! So, just like that, one grab bag of daycare dootie turns to TWO!

Wooohooo! My lucky day... I think I washed my hands like six times...
