Summer safety tips for your dog!

Summer is here! What a great time to enjoy the great outdoors, have a good swim, a long hick, long walks and more!

With the Summer heat comes some dangers for us dogs. Read on to learn how to keep your pup safe this summer!

Tip #1

Us dogs love spending time in the outside, especially with the family enjoying our yards. Be sure and keep your lawn the healthiest and safest place it can be. Learn how you can go organic with your lawn and still have a great place for you and your dog to play!

Tip #2

Heat can take a toll on us dogs. So, be sure and have plenty of fresh filtered water available at all times. And when taking those nice walks, be careful of the hot pavement as it can be harmful for your dog's paws.

Help your dog stay cooler when outside with an eco-friendly cool coat and seek out shade whenever possible.

Tip #3
Take care and keep and eye out for over-heating in your dog...cool them down with cool water on their paw pads and tummies. And if you suspect your dog may be overheating, get your pup to an emergency room right away. Learn more about the signs of heat stroke!.

Tip #4

It may be hot, but your dog still needs exercise to keep them healthy and happy. So take your walks and hikes, in the early morning and later in the evening when it's cooler!.

Tip #5

Water is very inviting to your dog when out and about, especially when it's hot, but did you know that some of those enticing puddles, retention ponds, riversand streams could very well be laced with lots of lawn and farming chemicals? To make water fun and safer try to find alternative places to swim and enjoy the water like adding a kiddie pool in your backyard, or seek out a chemical free swimming pool, or fresh mountain stream or ocean which will have a lot less chemicals to worry about, and be much healthier for your dog.

Tip #6

Summer is great, but with the heat come the bugs - ticks, fleas and no-see-ums! So learn and get educated about these pests and the dangers of many over the counter flea and tick medications on the market. The EPA and the Natural Resource Defense Council have provided us with warnings of the dangers of many over the counter flea and tick medications. What can you do? Seek out alternative, healthier and safer ways to fight the bug game.

Tip #7

Summer can bring some violent and scary storms, and celebrations bring noisy fireworks, loud noises and crowds, making it potentially be a very stressful time for us dogs. To help your dog cope with all this stress look into some alternative, healthy and safe ways to relieve your pup of the summertime bangs.

Tip #8

Get out there and have fun! Enjoy your summer, the healthy way for you and the environment!

More great tips to enjoy Summer!

Tip #1

Some of the really hot days we've had here lately just aren't condusive to being outside even for play time. So what do we do? We spend time indoors playing games, doing tricks and playing with interactive and intelligent dog puzzles and games! It works our brains which sometimes can tire us out just like a long walk would. Besides games are fun and can have the same effect as a long walk would.

Oh and don't forget to have you Mum, make you a super nice, cool Homemade Frosty Paw as a treat for all your hard work!

Tip #2

Summertime is travel and vacation time! Take your pup along and have fun, but be sure and bone up on some important travel safety measures, K? Practice good car safety and buckle your pup up in the car. Take extra good healthy food and water along on your trip and utilize eco-friendly safer travel dishes and bottles. Take along some biodegradable bags to pick up the dog poo and help the environment as well. And stow away a good first aid kit and emergency info about your dog, so you'll always be at the ready for whatever happens on your trip. And share with other folks about the dangers of leaving pups in cars, because they can heat up like ovens and become killers!

Tip #3

Some dogs, but not all, are good swimmers. So if you're going to be around water with your dog, take the time to teach your dog to swim for safety's sake. And check out a float coat to help 'em out (that's what we use when we go canoeing!

Tip #5

Too hot for your dog to exercise outside, try teaching them to walk on a treadmill! We do it when it's too hot or too cold to venture outside...it's a great way to stay in shape!
