Christmas Keepsakes, create memories
How to make Christmas memories that will last a lifetime:
1. Start a Christmas tradition with the entire family. Make it special for everyone, sit down with the family each year and talk about those special childhood memories. Talk about why certain things that you do around the holidays make it extra special.
Some families get together and decorate their tree with special ornaments that have a special meaning. With those heart warming foods, and warm winter drinks. Christmas music playing in the background.
Our family always enjoyed getting together to make Graham Cracker houses, with homemade frosting for the glue and each person would bring different candies, chocolates and marshmellows to decorate their house with. After all of us were done we would take pictures of each person with their graham cracker house to hang up at Christmastime.
2. Do something special for someone else at Christmas as a family. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Make a special basket for someone you know that doesn't have much and surprise them with it secretly placing it on their steps. Playing secret Santa can be great fun!
One family I know decided not to give gifts to each other, but instead to donate the money to their favorite charity.
3. The most important thing around the holidays is to spend time together, enjoy making those memories together that are special. Don't let those memories die, talk about those special times spent together. Write them on the cards you give to your loved ones, so they are not forgotten.
4. Plan a special holiday tradition around watching your favorite Christmas movie. Ours is "The Christmas Story". Or maybe you can all go out and see that special showing of the Nutcracker, a Christmas play or concert.
5. Get together and give a very special gift to that special someone in your life. That you know will be a family heirloom and passed down with fond memories for generations to come. Find something that will be cherished forever!
I have put together some ideas below for special gifts, but please remember that memories don't all come in a box, they are not something you can wrap and put under a tree. Enjoy your family and your friends, spend time together away from common distractions of everyday life. Talk to one another, share your thoughts and feelings, laugh and cry together. For those are what memories are made of!
