Keith Gray, 1934 - 2008

My dad touched a lot of people's lives over the course of his own.

He enjoyed his life and took great satisfaction in practising his Dental work to an incredibly high standard.

As a father, he was always there for my brother and myself. Now I've got my own kids, I just hope that I do half as good a job of it as he did.

As a husband, I think he enjoyed the breadwinner's role and being looked after! Actually, something there was going well seeing as he and Jeannette were married for forty-eight years.

He spent a great deal of his time since 1990 fighting off various cancer attacks. Some of the times we thought that he wouldn't pull through, but the tough old boot did just that and lived to see all three of his grandchildren.

We're all so proud of who he was and what he achieved. If I had more time to do so, I'd write a much more involved biography than this. Perhaps I will in the coming months, but for now I'll leave it at that and hope that you will add your memories of him to the guest book at the foot of this lens.

Please check back regularly to read the updates and to see if anyone with whom you've lost contact has left a message.

Regards,

Chris Gray

Funeral Thank You

A big thank you from Jeannette, Jonathan and Chris to everyone who attended Keith's funeral. Thanks also to all those who couldn't make it, and all who sent us cards of condolence. We'd also like to thank Irene Kopanska the humanist funeral minister who conducted an excellent service, which summed up my dad a treat. One of the poems that she recited was Anne Brontes 'Farewell':

Farewell to Thee! But not farewell
To all my fondest thoughts of Thee;
Within my heart they still shall dwell
And they shall cheer and comfort me.

Life seems more sweet that Thou didst live
And men more true that Thou wert one;
Nothing is lost that Thou didst give,
Nothing destroyed that Thou hast done

The collection in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support is around £250. A big thank you for this as well.

Jeannette, Jonathan and Chris, I am thinking about you at this very sad time. I have some fab memories of Keith, he was such a lovely person and I shall always remember him with a smile. He was so thoughtful - for example, he bought be a multi-purpose screw-driver when I moved to the flat as he knew I wouldn't have that sort of thing...and of course I didn't, and it still comes in very handy. Keith painted a number of birthday cards for me - which I have kept, and also a picture of Aunt Mat's house which he painted after she past away and I have it hanging in my home office. My parents have the picture he painted of Spring Farm - with Tessa sitting at the front gate, hanging in their sitting room and we all enjoy seeing it when we go round. I remember his love for sweet things, like chocolate covered marshmallows, and him introducing me to 'Tunnocks Snowballs'. I know Keith will be missed terribly, but as I said earlier, I will always remember him with a smile.

Welcome to the In Memoriam group, and it's a honor to have your lens in memory of your father in the group. He looks like someone who loved live and gave it a good fight...

Jeannette: My best to you and your family during this time. Keith was a wonderful man and father; I have been blessed to have known you both. While Jonathan was staying with Candace and Rick, I had a chance to get to know him and your family. Jonathan opened our eyes to all things around us that we had taken for granted. Keith was so proud of Jonathan's educational accomplishments and pleasantly surprised, yet rightfully concerned, when he studied in Iowa. He was so grateful and thanked us often--that's who Keith was. Keith gave me a beautiful picture that he had drawn of the English countryside and it hangs as you enter my dining room. It reads, "Sometimes when we least expect it, around an unfamiliar bend, there is a new glimpse of heaven, and perhaps a new found friend." Keith will always be a smile in the hearts of my family. Thank you for sharing your life with us. -- Carolyn Shalla, Kalona, Iowa, U.S.

With my deepest sorrow, & yet smile upon looking at the picture of your father, I send my condolence from Iowa, U.S., to your family.

I cherish the gold ivy that Keith made for me, no doubt with great care. When Keith & Jeannette visited Iowa we had great fun and Keith's smile, laughter, & thirst to embrase all things new was a gift to us. I remember we had an outing that has never been replicated. We watched my brother, Clint, compete on horseback rounding up cattle, thereafter we attended the Meskwaki Indian PowWow where we watched traditional dancing, listened to drums and singing, and saw elaborate attire. We also spent time at Clint's farm where he had his finest bulls & cattle on display as if the king and queen of England were visiting. I remember stopping at the end of Clint's lane to look at the stars. Keith stared upward & said, "yes, they are the same stars we see from our home in England". I share this memory yet today when I look into night sky. - Candace Peters

OK so this is what I'm about...

I'm a web developer specialising in ASP to Flash applications, but mostly I like to write games for fun.

I also create contemporary digital artworks that embrace the latest available software.

And I've got two young children, so I have to do a mortgagey type of thing too. This is the full-time job as a college lecturer running an Interactive Media course in Leeds, UK. It's great fun to do as I've got fantastic students, great colleagues and a course that pushes not just their boundaries.
