What are brainwaves and exactly what is brainwave entrainment?

Technically speaking, brainwaves show the speed at which neurons fire. But what does that mean? Different brain wave frequencies (commonly referred to as Gamma, Theta, Delta, Alpha, and Beta) correspond to different brain states.

Gamma - Focus
Theta - Meditation, Memory
Delta - Sleep, Detached Awareness
Alpha - Relaxation, Creativity
Beta - Alertness, Concentration

Brainwave Entrainment is when you listen to certain audios that help to change or entrain your brainwaves to go to a certain state (beta, alpha, etc.) These types of audios are called binaural beats.

So what? Why do I care about my brain states? And why would I want to entrain my brainwaves? Simply stated, because you can attain peak performance in your desired brain state. Let me give you an example....

Tired, but can't sleep? It's because your brainwaves are not in or near the delta state. So what if you could put on a set of headphones and listen to some music for 10 minutes and drift off to sleep? That is brainwave entrainment. You're off thinking about all the stuff you have to do tomorrow, so your brain is in the beta state. Listen to precisely engineered "music", aka binaural beats, and your brainwaves will begin to shift to the state in which the music leads it.

Now Onto the World of Subliminal Messages

(It's really not as bad as they make you believe)

Subliminal means "below the sensory threshold." Subliminal messages are messages embedded in audio (music), video (pictures, ads), or audio-video (movies) and are not caught by the conscious mind (above the sensory threshold), but rather by the subconscious mind (below the threshold). By going straight to the subconscious mind, the messages have a greater impact.

There are many debates about subliminal messaging. Does it work? Is it considered immoral? Can it physically or mentally harm a person? As many debates as there are, there are that many opinions also!

My personal opinion is this...as long as I know what messages are being embedded, I like the use of subliminal messages. I believe it can help with all sorts of personal issues. What it is not, in my opinion, is an instant fix to a problem. Subliminal messaging doesn't have much permanence to it, if the messages are not listened/watched every day for several weeks. It took a long time to create habits (good or bad) and it takes a long time to de-construct those habits and create new ones. Just my opinion....
