I'm here to show you the light in buying electronics! I also would like to thank my boyfriend for helping me improve some of the tips, advice, product recommendation, and awesome PCs for you to buy! It's not about some advice and tips it's about the right type of advice and tips!

#1 Read Reviews!

Advice and Tips

Reading reviews before buying something can be good for your money. Don't just read a few, read reviews for the electronic you plan on buying at several websites that offer for reviews from buyers. This can save you money and it really does add up. (I can definitely say that my dad should of read reviews online for his TV before he bought it. The color on it is going out. He bought his at Circuit City.) If it's a new product, do not get desperate and buy it, that can cost you in the end as you don't know much about the product.

#2 Buy Stuff With Warranties

Advice and Tips

The worse thing to possibly do is go out and buy something that has a 90 day warranty when you can get that same product somewhere else with a better warranty. Many of the computers you can buy at the store don't have a very long warranty. This can be bad for you because in the end, if the product stops working and the warranty is already gone, then you have to go buy another one, and it really does add up! OCZ is an example of a company who makes RAM and have very long warranties that come with their products.

Another thing to do is to buy warranties for stuff. I got my Vision:M through the Walmart Site-to-store thing and bought it for $214. I bought a two year extended warranty from walmart for around $18. Pretty good deal, I'd say.

#3 Build Your Own Computer

Advice and Tips

Building your own computer can be cheaper than buying one at the store. Plus the coolest thing is that the separate parts have their own warranties and the warranties can be very long, especially for good RAM!
One advice I give to you is not to buy from tigerdirect.com. They sell refurbished parts which could be bad for you, because they may stop working or screw up somehow. That can be bad for you and your budget, because if you have to buy something over and over again, it adds up.
That's the other thing too. Don't buy emachines. They are not great for performance. The silly thing is is that people think that it's not about performance, it's about functionality. Well, why bother paying $400 for something like an emachine, when you can pay that much to build a machine that will last you for longer than that emachine and out-perform that emachine? My aunt owned an emachine, after 3 years, a power outage killed it in 2005. I had a gateway at the time that was manufactured in 1998, it went through that same power outage and still lived. Tells you how poor the quality of the emachine was, eh?
This is the great thing about building yourself your own computer. If you don't know what to choose, get some advice, read the reviews! Just remember that certain motherboards match certain processors and RAM sticks. And always remember that sometimes cheap things are cheap. They can be so cheap that they fall apart, or stop working, etc and which in turn doesn't mean it's cheap anymore, because you have to go and buy that product again, that could mean a $50 product just became a $100 product. If you buy something that costs a little bit more and has better reviews, better lifetime, better performance, then you're actually going to save money!

#4 Overclocking

Advice and Tips

When thinking about overclocking there is several things to think about:
1. When overclocking, you can overclock RAM, processor, and videocard.
2. Is your system able to handle overclocking, do you know how to overclock, are your math skills good?
3. Does the product you are about to overclock have a void for warranty if you overclock it? If so, this might not be for you.
4. Does the product have good reviews on it being overclocked?
5. Does the motherboard allow for overclocking? (My motherboard doesn't even allow for a 1mhz overclock, however, my machine costed $314 to make, motherboard is just a little quirky, plus it came in a barebone.)
6. ABSOLUTELY do NOT overclock a Celeron or Sempron!
7. OCZ is a good brand for RAM if you plan on overclocking RAM
8. AMD is also a good brand for overclocking, because it can handle being hotter than an intel CPU.
9. It's not the best idea to buy the most expensive part, but it is a good idea to buy one that offers the best performance for the most reasonable price. Plus overclocking can come into play and make your value increase even more, so why should you pay for a pre overclocked version for additional money?
10. Some of the best board manufactureres these days, Such as DFI and now Gigabyte (yeah they're coming back) are great overclocking boards, and of course depending on the platform you use and what other components you select, your success may vary.

#5 Read and Compare Specifications

Advice and Tips

Comparing and reading specifications of an electronic is also a good thing to do. Compare the spefications to another product either slightly cheaper or slightly more expensive. Don't know what's good for a certain specification? Ask someone who does. Ask for assistance from the people who give assistance for such things on websites. If they don't know or they seem like they don't even know what they're talking about, don't rely on what they say, though!
When comparing specifications of two or more products, if there is only a slight change in certain spefications, but the product costs a lot more than the one with less, then get the one with less. Unless there is a significant difference, it's not smart to pay more for something with an insignificant difference in the specification area.

An example would be like this:

Video cards:

Video Card #1: EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail

Video Card #2: EVGA 640-P2-N825-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SUPERCLOCKED HDCP Video Card - Retail

Video Card #1: $379.99
Video Card #2: $409.99

Video card #1: Core Clock: 500mhz, Memory Clock: 1600Mhz(effective), Memory Size: 640MB, Memory Interface: 320-bit, Memory Type: GDDR3

Video Card #2: Core Clock: 576mhz, Memory Clock: 1700Mhz(effective), Memory Size: 640MB, Memory Interface: 320-bit, Memory Type: GDDR3

Which one should you get?

You should go with Video card number one. It's cheaper, and the only difference is video card 2 has a marginal speed increase from number one. If you feel that spending the extra money is worth that, then go ahead and buy the second. However do note that many people have reported that these cards can go much higher then just that. In fact my boyfriend has the same card and he overclocked the Core Clock to 651mhz and the Memory Clock to 2224mhz. Stock Core Clock on his card was 513mhz, Stock Memory Clock was 1588mhz.

#6 Equalization of PC Parts

Advice and Tips

One of the things that people don't realize is that one part of a PC can drag another down. For instance: If you have 4GB of RAM and a 1.8ghz AMD 64 3000+ processor, you won't be getting the most out of the RAM because the processor will be the lowest common denominator.

Creative Zens on eBay

Product Recommendation

Creative Labs is a really good company. I can really trust them with everything that has a soundcard built right in. I own a Creative Audigy 2 ZS, and I used to have a Sounblaster Live! as well as a Soundblaster PCI 64. Now I own a Creative Zen Vision:M. You can say that I really like the products from this company. Yes I do.

The only thing an iPod nano, or really, an iPod period can match up to in terms of quality of sound with Creative Labs is the Soundblaster PCI 64. Mine was manufactured in 1998. Just think how outdated that sounds for a second. Why would an MP3 player which is quite a new invention would have such outdated sound?

My experience with the iPods is with my DJ Style Headphones and them. My DJ style headphones are an $89 Sony MDR-V700s. I felt pretty sad, because these headphones can pick up on everything, but with this iPod, I couldn't even hear panning, it sounded like I was listening to crappy radio. It was pretty sad.

Now, from time to time, and even the first time I got my Vision:M, I tried them out with DJ Style headphones. I have a friend with a Creative Zen V. I didn't even need expensive headphones to be able to hear the quality of the sound for the songs. Goes the same for my Vision:M.

Most people think that it's size that matters, functionality that matters. But in reality, is that really true? In fact the Creative Zen V is smaller than the iPod Nano. The Vision:M is a bit bigger than the iPod Video. But I have so much functionality and so much quality with mine, that the iPod Video is just no comparision. Plus I paid less for my Vision:M.

So here is a list of MP3 players from Creative Labs (Prices vary depending on where you buy them at):

Creative Audigy 2 ZS on eBay

Product Recommendation

This soundcard is a nice, high quality soundcard. I own one and I will never go back to just poor quality integrated sound cards ever again. I paid $60 for this including shipping on ebay. With it I got a remote control, drivers and software, front panel which you can see here(copy and paste into browser): http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/46608476/,
and the soundcard you place inside your case yourself. Really nice sound quality as I've said before. The only thing I can tell you is that the problem youll have with this is trying to place it in a small case (MicroATX). Because of the quality, the soundcard is a little big. But in the end it's all worth it. Even with $20 pair of headphones, I saw a significant improvement in sound when I changed my soundcard. Crystal clear sound, ability to hear lower and higher frequencies (Especially with DJ Style headphones), SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio, more is better) is 108, above average. The SNR of an iPod Video is 90. The SNR of a Creative Zen Vision:M is 97.

All and all, I give this a 5/5!

Logitech MX Revolution on eBay

Product Recommendation

Logitech is a good brand to buy mouses, keyboards, and webcams from. I own an MX revolution and it works great!

Product: Logitech MX Revolution: Wireless mouse
Pros: I have used my mouse for more than 16 hours and it still didn't need charged. It has a rechargeable battery in it. You can go back and forth on webpages. You can configure the button on top to do whatever you want. you can configure the scroll wheel to be at any speed. You can configure the fastness of your mouse. Best of all, you can configure these seperately for each programs you use. No cords! Cords are evil and make the mouse move slower.

Cons: I couldn't exactly get a good signal with the receiver in the back of my computer and my mouse being so far at the front of my desk. I fixed this problem by placing the dongle in the front.

Stars: 4/5

Please be aware that certain computers, such as emachines, there may be USB ports on the front, but they are most likely not going to work. My computer was home-built, so my front USB ports do work. I have heard many complaints of front USB ports not working on pre-built machines. So if the product you have does not work, this may be the reason!

Logitech Elite LE Keyboard on eBay

Product Recommendation

I, myself, have this keyboard. It's a really nice, functional keyboard with more to it than the average keyboard. One of the key features I like about this keyboard, though so simple, is that the delete key takes up all of the space. Instead of having that dreadful insert key RIGHT BESIDE the backspace key. That's never fun. I like F-Keys because instead of going through start menu I can just press F-Lock key and then press whichever Fkey I want to press. I also like the calculator key because I use it a lot! I only wish they had a notepad key! ;) I like the volume: up, down, mute keys because it's easy access and quicker to use.

One problem I had was when I was taking this with me on a 4 hour long trip. I had wrapped the wiring around the keyboard and placed it in the same suit case as my MircoATX computer. I soon realized at my destination that my keyboard no longer worked. This is a con because I can do this to older keyboards and they have no shortage problems or anything.

I give this keyboard a 4/5!
