Kemple Glass Candlesticks and Covered Animal Dishes
Kemple Glass Company produced new glass from old molds, by buying molds of glass houses that had gone out of business and producing new pieces from them. From 1945 until the company closed in 1970, Kemple produced the McKee Brother 5 1/2 and 7 1/2 inch animals on the rib or split rib base. The animals included a horse, rooster, hen, lamb, turkey, cat, duck, rabbit and dove. They also produced a rooster, hen, fox cow and lion on a basket-weave base. Most importantly, the company produced the fish covered dish, where the cover is a flat piece that fits the fishes upturned mouth and has a small fish as the cover's handle. This mold originally was produced by the Indiana Tumbler Company.
