Customer service can make or break a business, particularly a Web-based business, which naturally has a much harder time connecting with customers than a bricks and mortar one. Treat your customers right or lose them forever.
A Canadian physician by the name of Ken Evoy introduced the concept of "overdeliver" in relation to online customer service several years ago. His site's bio states that his business philosophy is "to offer the absolute best tools and information available on the market in the most accessible format and at the most affordable price." Overdelivery in action.
But what does it mean to overdeliver?
In a nutshell, overdeliver means to surprise your customers with much more than what they were expecting. So, for example, if you say, "We'll respond to your inquiries within 24 hours," but you actually make it a practice to respond within 6 hours, that's overdelivering. Or, if you tell your customers about 3 bonuses that go with the product you're selling, but you surprise them the day after purchase with 2 more "unannounced" bonuses, that's overdelivering too.
Ken Envoy advocates building content-rich websites as a method of overdelivering. You build hundreds of pages of free content for your visitors and this overdelivery of useful advice helps put them in a receptive mindset so they'll listen to your product recommendations.
If you do a search on the Web for the term "overdeliver", you'll find it paired almost exclusively with another term UNDERpromise. I guess the concept there is that if you're careful not to promise too much, then when you deliver more than you said, you look good to the customer.
But doesn't that strike you as a tad bit dishonest? It's almost like the idea is to deliberately minimize what you're offering, just so you can impress the customer later. It might work, for a while.
However, Ken Evoy takes a slightly different tack with his Site Build It (SBI) platform, which is the flagship product for his SiteSell Internet-based business. One of his eBooks is careful to say We don't OVERpromise, we OVERdeliver. While it's true that their sales page doesn't over-hype SBI, they do promise a lot.
In the case of SBI, though, that's not a problem. Because, no matter how much Ken Evoy promises, in terms of what SBI does and can do for your business, as well as the kind of customer service you can expect when you buy SBI, it's based on the facts. And they always overdeliver, every single time.
Here are a few of the ways SBI overdelivers:
- For one annual fee, you gain access to a whole suite of web building and web business building tools. And this fee hasn't gone up in years, despite the fact that powerful new tools are added constantly.
- SBI is always on the cutting edge of useful new technology. SBI doesn't give you cosmetic technology; they give you access to features that practically guarantee your success in an online business provided you use them as directed.
- Besides the web building platform itself, you gain access to an extremely vibrant user community. This community is like having access to 24/7 technical support, but better many of the users are SBI pros, having built not just 1 successful SBI website, but several!
- If you do seek help from SBI's dedicated customer support staff, they answer quickly (usually within 6 hours on weekdays) and stick with you until your problem has been resolved.
Those are just a few of the ways SBI overdelivers to its customers on a daily basis. The best way to understand the concept of overdelivery, though, is to try Site Build It for yourself. You'll experience the power of this marketing strategy firsthand!
