THE book by Wilber everyone keeps coming back to. Many of his books after this one have been described as summaries, introductions or even rewrites of this one. It's not an easy book, but if you're smart enough - it's a great read.

Integral Psychology: Consciousness, Spirit, Psychology, Therapy

A reviewer on Amazon gives the following summary of this book:

The history of psychology, the perennial philosophy, the nature of holons and holarchies, the types of mysticism (psychic, subtle, causal, nondual), the types of spirituality (translative and transformative), the types of spiritual experience (peak, plateau, and permanent adaptation), the meme scheme of _Spiral Dynamics_ and ample discussions of other research, the pathologies that can be encountered on each level of development, a brief history of sociocultural evolution, the relation of transitory states of consciousness and stable structures of consciousness, the distinction between cultural-specific surface structures and universal deep structures, the fallacies of scientific materialism, the relations of the ego, the soul, and the Witness (or Spirit), and plenty of charts and figures to help make sense of it all.

And concludes: Surprisingly, this book holds together extremely well, and it isn't nearly as complicated as the above summary might lead one to suspect.

Grace and Grit: Ken Wilber's diary in loosing his wife to cancer

Spirituality and Healing in the Life and Death of Treya Killam Wilber

Very moving book which will help you deal with sorrow and loss in your own life. Ken Wilber's thoughts and feelings intertwined with his late wife's diary entries.

As one reviewer says:
This book woke me up. It reminded me about Love. (Saying that, the words seem so inadequate) The truth is, I can't come close to conveying the Love which comes through in this book. It's personal love directed toward a wife, a husband, a family. It's universal Love which calls to you to find your way home. It beckons "Promise you will find me again."

I just finished reading the last chapter, and I cried and cried. I remembered what it was like when my mom died. Dannion Brinkley said that when someone dies, the doors to Heaven open up, and energy flows in both directions. I'll second that. My mothers death was one of the most sacred experiences of my life.

Ken Wilber's Collected Works

The books by Ken Wilber I've personally read, were published in this series. They each have an introduction by the author (the advantage of having a Collected Works series published during the life of the author) and a great index.

Thanks for adding Ken Wilber to your list, reminds me I should review a book or two of his for my lens. He's such a strong contemporary voice of wisdom and can really boil it down for you. While his books are great, I find his audio is even better!

In No Boundary, Ken Wilber states,"In unity consciousness, in no boundary awareness, the sense of self expands to totally include everything once thought to be not self." Ken Wilber does a wonderful job of bringing together eastern and western understandings of life. I wouldn't say he writes for the beginner spiritual explorer but when you get to the point of appreciating the similarities and differences of eastern and western thought, you will enjoy this deep exploration.
