My Oldest Son
Kenneth, my oldest son, just turned nine. He was born two weeks before I graduated high school. Even before Kenneth was born he was the life of the party, so to speak. My friends kind of adopted him as their mascot even though he had yet to make his entrance into the world.
Kenneth has overcome so many challenges during his young life. He was born prematurely, and his lungs collapsed the day after he was born. Just making it through the first few days was a fight, literally the fight of his life. Needless to say he won.
There is much more to tell about him. There are so many stories, so many accomplishments, so many triumphant victories. Kenneth is one of my greatest accomplishments and he has inspired me every day of his life.

Future Heartbreaker
Kenneth Had A Difficult Begining
The early years were hard for him

Kenneth has always been an inspiration to me. He has been a fighter since the beginning, and hasn't let up yet.
Kenneth was born prematurely. During labor he caught Pneumonia and the day after he was born his lungs collapsed. Kenneth fought so hard for his life, and was well enough to go home in two weeks.
He struggled for the next three years, often battling bronchitis. His lungs were very weak from birth till about age three. We did many rounds of breathing treatments throughout this time in his life. The treatments were exhausting for our whole family. I would have to give them to him around the clock, every 4 or 5 hours. Kenneth would scream throughout these treatments and I'd have to hold him down. I spent many nights holding him down and crying with him.

Kenneth Being Silly
Kenneth Has ADHD
Diagnosed At Age 4

At age four Kenneth began school. He had a tough time staying still and concentrating during class time, he was soon diagnosed with ADHD. Kenneth had always been very hyper and rarely calmed down accept when he was asleep.
We put Kenneth on meds, which helped him focus in school, but he was still having difficulty learning. Someone at the school even suggested to me that he might have mild brain damage from the oxygen he received at birth. I knew that was not the case, he was just too good as figuring things out at home and in other areas of his life.

Can I Bottle His Energy And Sell It?
I'd be rich, I know I would be.

Kenneth is full of energy. He's always on the go. If he's sitting still he's tapping a foot or moving in some other way. Sometimes just watching him makes me tired.
Before my granny died she'd always say, "If I could bottle his energy, I'd be rich". I think she was right, now I just need to know how to do it.

Kenneth Is Hard Of Hearing
Hearing Impairment Found At Age 6

We didn't find out Kenneth was hard of hearing until he was six years old. There were many things that contributed to his late diagnosis, but I am just thankful we found out what was wrong.
Kenneth is missing 85% of his hearing in both ears. He wears hearing aids to correct the impairment, but he still misses quite a bit. There are sounds he doesn't hear at all with normal speech, and he doesn't hear sound well from a distance. If there is background noise his hearing ability is reduced drastically.
Since being diagnosed Kenneth has had so much improvement is school. He makes A's and B's, reads on grade level, and is in advanced math. He is amazing, and I'm not just saying that because I'm his mama.
Kenneth reads lips very well to help compensate for his hearing loss which is both good and bad.

Kenneth has enjoyed playing video games since he was three years old. At first we played together, but it didn't take him long to start playing by himself.

Kenneth has played a variety of different games, most of which he has beat within a few days of getting them. Below are some of his favorite PS2 games.

Kenneth's Pets
Hermit crabs make great pets
Hermit crabs are unusual pets, but that is just how Kenneth is. He loves the unusual. Kenneth fell very much in love with hermit crabs when we saw them in a pet store. He talked about hermit crabs all the time, and even wrote a poem about them prior to getting some of his own.
Kenneth now has two hermit crabs, Pappy and Craddy. You can read all about them on the lens below.

- Thank you for your kind comments, they made his day.
Kenneth still has issues with his ADHD. You can see a huge difference in him when he doesn't have his meds. He has a hard time even speaking clearly because his mouth can't keep up with his thoughts and he is all over the place hyper. He takes meds and works really hard to focus, but is still more hyper and unfocused than an average child his age even with his hearing aids and FM system. I wish that him being hard of hearing was all of the problem, but it's not. We hoped that it would be at the beginning.
ADHD is a reality that we face everyday, but with the help of meds, diet, and cognitive therapy techniques we manage it the best we can.
