This side compartment can be removed for filling at the faucet or simply pouring water directly into it.

K-cup insertion and removal from the Keurig B-40 is a breeze. The lever is easy to pull up to open the compartment. You just drop a K-cup into the filter/coffee holder and then push the lever back down. It has plenty of leverage action so it closes easily and is fool-proof.

Removal of the K-cup from the Keurig B40 Coffee Maker is just as easy as there are two indentations on the sides of the compartment that allow easy grasping of the sides of the K-cup. You just pull it out and throw it away. Now, we will address the 'green' component of the Keurig in a moment.

Cleanliness is amazing. Removal of a used K-cup doesn't leave anything behind. No coffee grounds to wipe or rinse or throw away, just the little easily removable cartridge (K-cup). I only put filtered water in mine so I'm guessing I won't have much build-up of sediments either.

Brew several cycles -- with NO K-Cup -- into a mug or heat-safe glass measuring cup until the water tank is empty.

Leave your Keurig brewer on for 30 minutes. At this point you still have the descaling solution in your boiler, where it will continue the descaling process.
Rinse and re-fill your water reservoir and brew several cycles into a mug until the water tank is empty.

Re-fill and repeat, until the water in your mug or measuring cup is completely clear.

Your brewer is refreshed and revived, and ready to make a fresh cup of coffee!
