Protect your Bike Tires & Save yourself from Repairing Punctures

There are times, more often than not when you just want to get on your bike and ride without the niggling thought that you'd be best to leave enough time in case of the unexpected. The unexpected for me on my bike it the absolutely expected thorn in my tire. Last year, I had just about had my fill of punctures on the commute to work, though I did become an expert fixture of said nuisance.
This year I decided a little investment was needed to save myself some time, as a 14 mile one was journey to work was long and tiring. So, I've invested in the Continental Gatorskin tires and they're working a treat.

Benefits of a Little Extra Protection

Kevlar & Lined Tires

As a child it wasn't so bad if you got a puncture, you didn't tend to go too far from home and my pa was always there to fix it for me.
But I'm an adult now and trying to do the responsible thing of cycling to work to make me fitter, spend less money, and be kinder to the environment. Then thorns and broken glass suddenly seemed to become the bane of my life and so this year I made a choice to get protected.
There are various ways of providing extra protection to your bike but when you want to keep the weight down so that you can roll faster this was the best option I found.
Kevlar is used in a variety of ways to add strength to products from the straps on Breathing Apparatus for Fire Fighters to clothing, this additional layer on the outside of the tire means that debris will find it harder to work its way in.
Even with these tires listed below it is still worthwhile giving the wheel a quick spin and a once over on your arrival to ensure that there is nothing gripping on to the wheel that might work itself in.

When fitting these, I'd also advise on buying new inner tubes at the same time. You wouldn't want the tire to be good but the inner tube to give out, which would almost defeat the issue because your aim is not wanting to deal with punctures.

Another little handy tip is to sprinkle some Talc between the inner tube and the tire as this allows for a stick free touch.
