Morgan silver dollars are one of the most popular and widely collected coins produced by the U.S. mint second only to the Lincoln head penny.

The United States Mint began the production of the Morgan silver dollar in 1878. Morgan dollars were minted in Carson City, San Francisco, Philadelphia, New Orleans and in Denver in 1921. These coins were designed by and named after George T. Morgan and feature a portrait of "Liberty" on the obverse of the coin and an eagle with spread wings on the reverse side of the coin. The Morgan dollar was the first U.S. coin to include the national phrase, "E. Pluribus Unum" on the coins reverse. This one dollar coin is 90% silver, weighs 412.5 grains and is 38.1mm in diameter.

Rare Morgan Dollars

The Peace type silver dollar coin designed by Anthony De Francisci, was issued from 1921 to 1935 and was originally intended to be a commemorative coin with a limited number of coins to be minted. U.S. silver Peace dollars were minted under the terms of the Pittman Act which allowed for the use of silver bullion reserves.

The Peace dollar had a relatively short run of the number of years the coins were minted compared to the Morgan silver dollar. Coin collectors can easily assemble a complete set of Peace Dollar coins in circulated condition at affordable prices. Advanced collectors with financial means can purchase them in certified or slabbed condition grades.
