Why the need for keyword research
Everything online revolves around keywords. That's how Google directs searchers to the right web page - by the keywords that a web page uses and targets.When you surf the Net, you type a query into the search box - that is your keyword phrase. It is this phrase that Google matches up to related web pages and gives the results.
If certain keywords are popular, it means it's a highly sought-after topic = high demand. And this produces competition.
What's the point of having your website target popular search terms when there are zillions of competing websites all targeting the same words? Your blog or website will never see the light of day on any results page and your Adsense earnings will be zilch - hence the need for keyword research.
You need to find reasonably popular keywords (gets you lots of visitors) but which don't have too many competitors. And along with it, you'd like to target high-paying Adsense keywords. So how do you find out which keywords are high paying? There are specialized websites that cater for this - the trouble is they charge you as well.

Not all of them are in competition - often you can cut their numbers by half. A great many of them are not search engine optimized properly. They have no:
- Web page title
- Keywords and/or description in their meta tags
- Alt image tags
- Bolded keywords
- Keywords in heading 1 format
These sites are beatable - you can out-gun them. All you have to do is visit your top competitors' sites, go to View menu, choose Source, and all these details are there for you to check out.It's a lot of work but there's a way around it especially if all this sounds gibberish to you.
