Kibitz Spot - A New Blog, A New Place For Fun

I hope you will join me for a bit of kibitzing! I love to kibitz. I think it is a trait I inherited from my grandmother on my mom's side. If you are already wondering what I am going on about, that's simple. It's my new blog: Kibitz Spot.

What is Kibitz Spot, you ask? Excellent question and I am hoping this page will provide the answers.

I can tell you quickly that if you are looking for a bit of Jewish fun you have come to the right spot. If you enjoy a Jewish joke, are looking for that unusual Jewish holiday keepsake or need a hilarious gag gift for a Jewish friend, then hopefully Kibitz Spot will meet your need.

Have a quick look around here, then link on over and join me for some kibitzing.

Some Yiddish Expressions You Might Already Know

Yiddish, sometimes referred to in modern society as broken German, was the language spoken by over 11 million Ashkenazi Jew prior to World War II. While still spoken by some worldwide, to me it is the funny language of my bubbe (grandmother). You will find many spellings of each of the words, as there is no universal transliteration. Most spellings are considered correct.

Here are some expressions you probably already know:

Yiddish

Pukeko's translation to English

Oy Vey!

Oh my! Indicating dismay or grief.

Chutzpah

Utter nerve.

Schlep

To drag around, to lug.

Icky

Unpleasantly sticky, or just unpleasant

Questions and Answers

Why a Yiddish Name on an English Speaking Blog?

That's easy - Yiddish is fun. It just seemed to lend itself nicely to a lighthearted Jewish Blog.

Why Kibitz?

Another easy one. Three reasons:
  • 1The blog is Kibitzing.
  • 2I love the way the word sounds - go on say it:
    Kibitz, Kibitz, Kibitz
  • 3Reason number 3 is here for my friends who might be starting their own blogs: Google likes it.
